President Donald Trump, in an interview on Sunday, called the impeachment proceedings against him "unfair" and said that it had taken a personal toll on his family. Trump made the revelation while talking to Sean Hannity in an interview that aired on Fox News before the Super Bowl on Sunday.

"Well, it’s been very unfair. From the day I won … from the day I came down from the escalator. It probably started from there. It’s been a very, very unfair process," Trump said. "The Mueller Report, Russia, Russia, Russia, as you say, which was total nonsense — it was all nonsense, the whole thing. It was very unfair, and mostly it was unfair to my family."

"I mean, my family suffered because of all this," the President added. "And many other families suffered also. It’s a very serious thing and it should never happen to another president."

President Trump was impeached in December as the House of Representatives voted to approve two articles of impeachment against him: Abuse of power and obstruction of justice. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi launched an impeachment inquiry in September after a whistleblower lodged a formal complaint, alleging that Trump had sought favor from Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky during a June phone call, asking him to investigate his political rival, former Vice President Joe Biden.

The Senate, however, voted against calling witnesses in the impeachment trial last Friday, paving the way to an expected acquittal of the President this Wednesday.

Trump, during the interview, was also asked whether he would be able to work with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. The President replied, "Well, I’d like to but it’s pretty hard when you think about it."

"I see the hatred. They don’t care about fairness. They don’t care about lying," he said. "You look at the lies … the level of hypocrisy. So I’m not so sure they can do it to be honest. I think they just want to win and it doesn’t matter how they win."

The President also slammed the media in the interview, calling it "fake news," and accusing news outlets of not reporting on the "good" economy.

"What they’ve done — all the media, I call it the fake news and it is fake news so much of it — and a lot of the fake news is that they don’t want to report the good stuff. They don’t want to report the economy is good," Trump said. "You see what’s going on. There’s a revolution going on in this country. I mean a positive revolution."
