Trump called ‘Rod Stewart of politicians’, Internet says ‘Maggie May’ singer doesn't deserve trash analogy

US President Donald Trump has been compared to many things, but one analogy has people on the Internet squirming and fuming with rage. Apparently, a news piece drew a parallel between Trump and British rock singer and songwriter Rod Stewart and  Twitter exploded with a flurry of angry tweets.

It started with the tweet: "Trump is “the Rod Stewart of politicians — he may keep coming up with new material but deep down he knows his fans just want to hear ‘Wake Up Maggie,’ so he keeps playing the same tune because he can’t stand the thought of them not loving his performance”." Maggie Haberman, the White House correspondent for NYTimes, was slammed for comparing the two celebrities and her tweet went viral with over 1,500 retweets and 3,900 likes.

While many trolled her for getting the song title wrong, others were furious for dragging Stewart into a piece on Trump. "Why drag Rod Stewart into this?" one tweet read and another said, "Rod Stewart has class, Trump has zero class." One even went on to post, "And the Worst Analogy Of The Year Award goes to..."

Pointing out how Stewart's song was called 'Maggie May (from It Had To Be You)', of which the lyrics read: "Wake up, Maggie, I think I got something to say to you/It's late September and I really should be back at school..." "What the holy hell is “Wake Up Maggie?” Very slobby reporting Maggie," one tweet read and another said, "You're confused. 'Wake Up Maggie' is the title of your career, not a Rod Stewart song." Another said, "The song's title is 'Maggie May'. Rod Stewart is one of the best selling artists of all time, was Knighted, and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He had 16 other top 10 singles. He also fabulously covered Motown and Great American Songbook. You are insufferable."

One went on to say, "It's 'Maggie May'. Also, Rod Stewart is a far better human being than either you or Trump and he doesn't deserve this libel." Another posted, "So now Maggie wants us to think Trump is the Rod Stewart of politics, which is supposed to imply that he’s a one-hit-wonder EXCEPT that Rod Stewart has quite a few hits. Yes, I’m really bitter that nepotism creates Maggies when there’s people out here with decent analogies."

"Wake up Maggie I think I got something to say to you... The difference between Rod Stewart and King Covid the 19th is that Rod Stewart can still fill an arena," one tweet read and another said, "Trump is not the Rod Stewart of politicians. Rod has had a long and successful career playing many hits. If you’re looking for a one-hit-wonder (who also went bankrupt) for comparison, Vanilla Ice is literally right there."

One tweet blatantly said, "Leave Rod Stewart alone. He doesn't deserve this trash analogy which I won't even repeat." Another read, "Comparing Rod Stewart to trump is like comparing diamonds to a picture of a Swastika wearing rapist dipped in s**t." Another posted, "Did Rod Stewart rape a bunch of women, cheat in an election, put kids in cages, or shirk his responsibilities leading to the deaths of thousands?"

Another Twitter user concluded: "This is analogy is all wrong. He could be the Brewer and Shipley, the Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods, the Pipkins, the Right Said Fred, or the Sandford Townsend Band of politicians, but he ain't no Rod Stewart."
