Former President Donald Trump's impeachment trial was the talk of the town on Tuesday, February 9. But it could be said that David Schoen unwittingly became the star of the hearing when he gave Twitter a lesson in orthodox Jewish customs. During the impeachment trial, Trump’s attorney Schoen can be seen resting his hand on top of his head each time he took a sip of water. And it is safe to say that Twitter did not miss this little detail.

As Schoen delivered his argument that Trump's second impeachment trial was unconstitutional because he was no longer in office, viewers noted his seemingly unusual drinking habit as he kept his hand on his head every time he took a sip of water. Some even suggested that he was trying to keep his toupee from falling.

“Is anybody going to acknowledge the way David Schoen is drinking water? #TrumpImpeachment #ImpeachmentTrial” one user took to Twitter to share. "Ya think? Every single time David Schoen took a drink of water, he put his hand on his head as if to keep his toupee from falling off... But he’s bald!!! So, What was he doing??? Weird as hell. =^.^=" another wrote.

"Did anyone notice the way David Schoen drank his water. He put the plastic bottle to his lips and at the same time held the top of his head with his other hand. Weird," another user elaborated on the "weird" gesture.

Some users took it upon themselves to explain the religious symbolism behind the gesture. "Mr Schoen is an observant Jew who must cover his head when he takes a sip of water and quietly says a blessing. Since he is not wearing a kippah, he therefore covers his head with his hand."

CEO of the kosher division of the Orthodox Union Rabbi Menchem Genack also explained that since Schoen is an observant Jew, he must cover his head and say a blessing whenever he eats or drinks.

“Each time we eat or drink something we say a blessing to thank God and we cover our head, typically with a yarmulke, to show respect and to acknowledge that there’s someone above us,” Genack told The Post. “Since he wasn’t wearing a yarmulke he wanted to at least cover his head with his hand.”

Tweets mocking Schoen's gesture also annoyed many practicing Jews, with many asking people to show respect for the religious practice. "Would love if people would stop making disrespectful ‘jokes’ about how David Schoen places his hand on his head when he drinks water— it’s a Jewish practice, and his hand is a quick replacement for a yarmulke," one said.

"David Schoen is covering his head with his hand when he drinks the water as deemed in the Jewish faith since he isn’t wearing a yarmulke right now. I respect that. Can you retweet this to all the hecklers out there? Politics aside. Show respect for races and religion."
