Trump had the hots for son Don Jr.'s girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle, was not happy when they started dating: Report
President Donald Trump was reportedly not "enthusiastic" when his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., began dating the former Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle. According to one of the president's aides, he found Guilfoyle to be a distraction, and thought she lacked "substance," however, a one longtime Trump adviser has allegedly revealed that there might have been another reason — the president wanted her for himself, The Atlantic's McKay Coppins has stated.
The report stated that Guilfoyle, during the early days of the Trump administration, had lobbied to become White House press secretary, however, the president did not show much interest. "Even he can tell the difference between the attractive women on Fox who have a little bit of substance, and those who will be derided as airheads," one aide was quoted as saying.
Shortly after she began dating Trump Jr., she was spotted posing for photos on the South Lawn and made headlines on gossip pages with him. However, her presence at a White House Fourth of July party "sparked a round of fawning press coverage—upstaging Jared and Ivanka," which reportedly exasperated aides. Noticing this pattern, Trump, by the time Thanksgiving approached, seemed to be opposed to the former television host, saying she "wasn’t welcome to join the family at Mar-a-Lago," Coppins wrote, quoted two sources.
Although some aides suspected that Trump's disapprobation was because he was "fed up" of the couple, a "longtime Trump adviser" revealed an entirely different reason that may have irked the president. "Over the years, Trump had frequently made suggestive comments about Guilfoyle’s attractiveness, the adviser told me, and more than once inquired about whom she was dating," Coppins wrote.
Despite Trump's disapproval, the couple, dubbed as "Donberly", became a hit as they hit the president's campaign trail. "They went on hunting trips and posted selfies with rifles on social media. Fans on Twitter began referring to Guilfoyle as the “future first lady,” and she made little effort to tamp down the speculation," the outlet reported.
The pair reportedly started dating in late March 2018. This is around the same time when he announced his split from his wife, Vanessa. Vanessa and Trump Jr had been married for twelve years.
