'True Detective' season 3: Stephen Dorff shines in the premiere of the much-awaited HBO show
Not that Mahershala Ali doesn't meet expectations, but Stephen Dorff is really something else in the new season of HBO's 'True Detective'. Dorff not only manages to make you believe in Roland West, a religious middle-aged cop who tries his best to listen to his moral compass, he also gives you a generous dose of nostalgia. There's something so unsophisticatedly Marty Hart about him, you can't help but wonder if the rest of the season will leave you as shocked as the first season had. If it does, nothing like it.
'True Detective' is back in action after a flat second season and it feels like creator Nic Pizzolatto has definitely gone back to his roots for this one. This time we've got two Arkansas investigators who stumble on to a case in the heart of the Ozarks, that ends up altering their lives forever.
