True Detective season 3 episode 7: 'The Final Country' takes us back to Lucy's best friend

With just two more episodes to go, 'True Detective' is really stepping up its mystery game. The next episode will be all about making connections with the past and seeing things with a fresh pair of eyes and a little more information. Called 'The Final Country' it takes us back to the Ozarks where things are still pretty much unsolved. We also see the kidnappers, the two ghosts from the infamous Halloween day.

The episode starts with Wayne and Roland following fresh leads in the investigation in the 1990 timeline. They try to track down a man who left the police force in the midst of the Purcell investigations thinking that he may know more than they do. Last week we found out who Harris James was and we know that he quit his job in the police force after the case was closed the first time.

He moved into the security wing of Hoyt Foods and it is speculated that he's the one who planted the evidence at Woodard's house. Not to mention that he hid everything he knew about the expensive brown sedan from the 1980 investigation. However, in this case, it looks like the detectives are looking for someone else - is it possibly any of the men who are in the higher positions on the force?

Meanwhile, in the same timeline, Amelia, who is the third detective decides to do some more digging on her own. She met up with a roommate of Julie's in the last episode who lived in Hoyt's home for vulnerable girls and figured out that there was something seedy going on with the place.

This time, she decides to talk to someone who was close to Lucy Purcell. With Lucy being already dead in this timeline and the strange conversation that these two ladies had in the 1980s - Amelia knows that her best friend will have a few beans to spill. Amelia goes and meets Margaret - the same neighbor who had seen the Purcell kids for the last time while taking down some Halloween decorations in the first episode.

Amelia, who has photographs from the fateful Halloween day, shows them to Margaret and we finally see the two ghosts - lurking in the background in front of her house, right behind a smiling Julie and a happy Will. Amelia's also sniffing around for the one-eyed man in this episode, after the heated entry he made at the book launch. She knows that he definitely knows something - something that her husband and his partner did not know.

In the 2015 timeline, Wayns still appears to be struggling with his memory and is recollecting everything with the help of Amelia's book. He continues doing the interview with Elise and she asks him if he thought that Amelia's book had hinted at a coverup. Elise's agenda right from the begining was to prove that it indeed was and the way things have been going for the present day Wayne, it definitely looks like it was.

Tom Purcell is nowhere to be seen in the promo and neither is Harris James. Is Tom dead? Did the detectives kill Harris? What does Margaret know but is she telling the truth?
