ENNIS, ALASKA: The mysteries of Season 4 of 'True Detective' begin to unravel as Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) discovers the evidence that ties Tsalal Research Station to Silver Sky Mining.

She confronts Kate McKittrick (Dervla Kirwan) about the mining company's huge funding to the station to get bogus pollution number for them.

Meanwhile, Ted Connelly (Christopher Eccleston) interrupts and asks her to shut the case while threatening about the William Wheeler case, where Liz and Evangeline allegedly killed the man.

Kate secretly meets Hank Prior (John Hawkes) and subtly suggests that he should kill Otis Heiss before he could lead Danvers to the cave where Annie Kowtok was killed.

Their conversation also implies that years ago, Kate bribed Hank to move Annie K's dead body from the cave to the location where she was found. She offered her money and promised him the position of Chief of Police before Liz's appointment ruined their plans.

As Kate says "things will be different this time around," Hank begins looking for Otis. He ends up at Danvers' house where he finds Otis and tries to take him away. As Danvers stops him, Hank ends up shooting Otis.

Peter Prior has to choose between his father and mentor

Peter Prior (Finn Bennett) walks into the Danvers' house, he sees his father pointing gun at Danvers, who is the witness of Otis' murder.

Peter is now forced to choose between protecting Danvers, his mentor, or siding with his crooked father who just killed a man important to the investigation.

As intensity builds, Peter pulls the trigger and shoots his father in the head.

Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis), who arrives after the damage is done, suggets that Peter would be in trouble if anyone learns about what happened.

She hatches a plan that they would dispose Hank's body into the frozen sea with Rose Aguineau's (Fiona Shaw) help and continue they journey to search for the truth.

With new discoveries in Episode 5, Navarro and Danvers are getting closer to know what happened to Annie Kowtok.

The finale episode will answer the questions lingering in our heads- Who killed Annie? What happened with Tsalal scientists? Is the supernatural events or the dirty works of the Mining company claimed their lives and risking the future of Ennis?

Five episodes of 'True Detective: Night Country' are currently streaming on Max. The finale episode will be dropped on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at 9 pm ET.
