WASHINGTON, DC: The spell of disorder has been gripping the House of Representatives as the party has failed to elect a new speaker even after three long weeks.

The House of Representatives has been paralyzed and unable to move important legislation since the ouster of Kevin McCarthy on October 3.

The historic vote out made McCarthy the first Speaker in the 234-year history of the United States Congress to have his gavel taken away by fellow lawmakers.

Following the historic ouster, Majority Leader Steve Scalise was initially the party's choice to replace McCarthy, but he removed his name from consideration in a matter of days.

Last week, House Republicans nominated Rep Jim Jordan, who has continued to cast doubt on the results of the 2020 election and who has been a close ally of Trump's, to be the next Speaker.

However, the GOP withdrew him from consideration as their nominee, citing his inability to secure 217 votes across three votes on the House floor.

Now, nine Republicans have thrown their names to become the next Speaker.

AOC parody account post for Liz Cheney

Amid a desperate hunt for a new GOP speaker, a parody account for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made a tweet for Cheney, stating “Today is the day we will vote Liz Cheney in as Speaker. Watch and learn.”

Ocasio-Cortez and Cheney don't appear to get along well because they had a falling out over a New York Democrat's assertion that the US was operating "concentration camps" at the southern border.

The parody account’s post came just a few hours after the former Wyoming Congresswoman thrashed Kevin McCarthy, accusing him of cultivating a hotbed of extremism that led to the recent chaos.

“What we’ve seen is a result of the leadership decisions that Kevin McCarthy made back after the 2020 election and certainly after January 6,” Cheney, a Republican, said during an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“Looking the other way in the face of the kind of assault on our democracy that we’ve seen from Donald Trump and his allies in the House, including Jim Jordan; elevating those members, frankly, some of whom are white supremacists, some of whom are antisemitic,” she continued.

Cheney also stressed that she was disturbed about how intimidation was part of Jim Jordan’s campaign to win that job.

“Political violence and the threats of violence have now reared their head once again,” she said, adding “Those have become part of our politics in a way that certainly they never should.”
