LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: For the first time in seven live-action installments, the Autobots have a threat beyond their wildest dreams. Until now, it was the mighty Decepticons, their compatriots from the planet Cybertron who were a thorn in their way of peace and prosperity on Earth but now the Autobots face Unicron, a Cybertronian god of chaos and harbinger of destruction. With a body that can devour massive planets, Unicron is a threat of apocalyptic proportions.

He is often regarded as ‘The Prime Evil’ or ‘The Chaos Bringer’ in the Transformers series, and to defeat him is a feat that will require the force of every Autobot and their descendant in the universe. In ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,’ the war between the Autobots and Decepticons rages on but the two have immense support with the introductions of a few new factions on either side. The Terracons, who are created from dead Transformers, and the Predacons, who usually take the shape of reptiles and amphibians are the descendants of Decepticons and will aid them in their fight against the Autobots. However, the Maximals descend from Autobots and have taken the shape of mammals on Earth. Armed with new allies, the Autobots and Decepticons are going toe to toe once again but the former has a bigger threat in the form of planet eater Unicron who cannot be reasoned or trifled with. Can Autobots tackle the wrath of Unicron?

Who is Unicron?

Unicron is a force that can consume anything and everything that comes his way. He is unbeatable and is capable of interdimensional travel. He can transform himself into a humanoid robot, resurrect the dead and shoot powerful beams from his eyes. Unicron is a true shapeshifter whose name instills fear in beings across the universe. His powers come from a cosmic entity named, ‘The One,’ which held within itself Chaos and Order. Order manifested into Primus while Chaos took the form of Unicron and eventually, the two turned eternal rivals. Since then, Primus has been protecting every reality across the universe while Unicron sweeps through and destroys planets in his wake.

When the threat is this massive, the full strength of Autobots needs to be assembled. Optimus Prime may lead them but in ‘Rise of the Beasts,’ he had no choice but to reach out to the Maximals who have been in hiding for years on Earth. It will take the unified effort of multiple Autobots and Maximals to contain if not erase the threat of Unicron.

What can be expected from Unicron?

Unicron simply wants to devour every planet in the universe. He might come across as someone on the side of the Decepticons but his eternal desires far outweigh the vision of the Decepticons. Unicron was first teased in ‘Transformers: The Last Knight,’ where it was assumed that Unicron was the Earth. The planet was made around him and messing with his horns would be to wake him up from a big slumber. In ‘Rise of the Beasts,’ Earth witnesses Unicron coming to its shores to ravage everything. The Autobots are fighting the war against the Decepticons and so it is expected that the stakes are through the roof in the new Transformers film which might give birth to a new multiverse of its own.

'Transformers: Rise of the Beasts' hits theaters on June 9, 2023 in the US.
