A British tourist bled to death in his hotel room in Thailand after tripping over his suitcase and falling through a glass door.

Luke Goodere, 33, of Skegness, had made a stop at Phi Phi island on the way back home to Sydney, Australia, after his first visit to see his family in the UK after two-and-a-half years when the tragic incident unfolded on April 11, according to Lincolnshire Live.

An inquest into his death held at the Lincoln Coroner's Court this past week heard that Goodere had gone to a festival on the island with friends before going back to his hotel room that night, where he was seen fast asleep at 4 am.

Just four hours later, he was found dead after having suffered a fatal abdominal injury from a shard of broken glass. A postmortem examination had ruled that the cause of death as abdominal hemorrhage as a result of abdominal injury.

In an investigative report read to the court, Charlotte Alexander from the Coroner's office said, "It is believed that it was some time after 4 am and he's fallen through the glass doors to the balcony. His suitcase was between the bed and the door so potentially he had tripped."

Coroner Paul Smith concluded Goodere's death was accidental, and told the court, "The best evidence is that he was socializing at a festival. He had consumed some alcohol and he and his friends returned to his accommodation."

"He may or may not have had too much alcohol in his system—I make no findings in relation to that," he continued. "He was seen fast asleep at 4 am and the authorities were alerted four hours later at 8 am. During the course of the night, he got up from the bed and suffered an accidental fall and suffered an injury that led to his death."

"The information is somewhat sparse. The police investigation appears to have excluded the possibility of third party involvement. There's no suggestion that any criminal act was suspected or investigated."

Following the verdict, Goodere's father took to Facebook to pay tribute to the 33-year-old, and wrote, "Today has been a very difficult time for Luke's family. His inquest was held at Lincoln Coroner's Court and the Coroner after considering all the reports from the police in Thailand and medical examinations ruled Luke died as a result of an accident whilst visiting friends in Phi Phi."

"We could not have asked for a better son/brother whom we loved enormously and will forever miss. Please continue to share your photos, stories, or memories of Luke as we find it a great comfort to see or read them. Luke, you will never be forgotten."
