BATTICALOA, SRI LANKA: A heart-melting footage showcasing the natural bond between humans and animals has been going viral on the internet. In a brief video, a langur can be seen trying to wake up a dead man who fed and cared for it at his funeral in Sri Lanka.

The footage of the incident was shared by a resident with a username of Aslaw CC on Twitter. In the video, a langur is seen sitting courageously near the dead body of a man - identified as Rajan - who cared for the langur and used to offer food whenever it visited his residence. The terrified family members and friends of Rajan tried to get the primate away but the devastated langur refused to leave the hand of its human companion.

At one point in the video, the langur is seen saluting the man’s dead body and bowing to kiss his forehand. The langur even tried to rouse him up by picking up and shaking his hand. It also tried to touch the man’s feet and move his hand on his face to apparently check whether he is breathing or not. The gestures made by the langur left the community, who arrived at the residence to mourn Rajan’s death, amazed.

The video, which has garnered more than 6,000 views, touched many social media users, who commended the friendship between the man and the primate. “Unconditional love of the animal world. Human beings have reduced the relationships to need based ones. Very touching sight!” wrote a user, while another said, “This is the respect this man has earned. God has shown and conveyed to this world through his passing away, this is how we néed to treat God's creations in similar manner respectfully and earn their respect. I have no words. Emotionally chocked.”

Praising the animal, someone else wrote, “Therefore We should learn some things from the Animals & we should protect them because without animals life is nothing.” Another said, “That man has earned the love, if there is a heaven for people, he is surely going there.”

This is not the first time a monkey's compassion has grabbed social media’s attention. Earlier this year, another video went viral on the internet, in which a monkey was seen giving a shoulder to cry to a man who looked stressed and anxious. The man obliged and the monkey then consoled him by patting his shoulder.
