'Top Gear' Season 28 Episode 6: Rich Colin McRae tribute and emergency services tussle make for fitting finale
Spoilers for 'Top Gear' Season 28 Episode 6
It was an adrenaline rush as Episode 6 'Top Gear' Season 28 ended with a bang. The episode had four segments and the first saw Paddy McGuiness review a BMW M8 which was classified under the supercar category. The car had all it takes to nail the track. Nought to 60 in just over three seconds, an exhilarating driving experience two-wheel-drive mode, classy looks and handles incredibly well in the corners. However, an extravagant price makes it heavy on the wallet, but nonetheless, a car that's worth it if you're a BMW fan.
The second part is an emotional tribute to Scottish racing legend, Colin McRae, and his intense rivalry with Carlos Sainz when both drive raced for the Subaru during the WRC 1995. The segment also has interviews from McRae's family and colleagues as it charts his rise from obscurity to immense fame. Chris Harris gets an opportunity to drive the late racer's Subaru Impreza around a rally course that sees him pay a genuine rich tribute to McRae.
The guest of the show was comedian Tom Ellen sharing his experiences on a race track, however, the fun part is when there's an emergency services showdown to determine who among the police, ambulance, or the fire engine are the fastest? The plan is to have three tests — speed, agility and endurance. The ambulance wins rounds one and two where the tasks are to set the fastest lap time across a track and overtaking the show's secret driver, Stig. The highlight had to be the fire service's team attempting to chase down Stig driving a car literally on fire. As the chase gets intense, the producers call off the activity as Stig's car begins to melt. The third test is about teams taking part in a chain car race where they attempt to clock as many laps as possible except Stig would crash into them time and again to make the task more challenging. The ambulance services come through again marking the end of the episode and a fun Season 28.
'Top Gear' has been one of those top shows with a solid global audience and it's safe to say Season 28 didn't disappoint. The new season, filmed despite the ongoing pandemic promises more action and comedy as Chris Harris, Paddy McGuiness and Freddie Flintoff take on more challenges and reviews. The upcoming installment is slated to start Sunday, October 18, and is filmed across the United Kingdom. Wall of Death, hurtling down a ski slope in holiday hire cars, racing around in electric cars, testing classic speed monsters like the Jaguar of the '90s, and reviews make up the latest season. The trailer features the trio test a Volvo S60 Hybrid, Tesla Model 3 and BMW 330 Hybrid cars for 24 hours straight. It will surely be another fun-filled, yet insightful season of 'Top Gear' to look forward to.
'Top Gear' airs 8 pm ET/PT on BBC America.
