The top fashion trends in 2019 featured several throwback trends with a whole new modern twist. This year saw the return of older trends such as ruffles and modified textile traditions like crochet. The trends of 2019 took many forms in terms of apparel, accessories, prints, textiles and much more.

These were the top trends that emerged from couture this 2019:

Scattered feathers

Though the trend dates back centuries, it was widely worn during 2019. Many celebrities including Kylie Jenner, Kendall Jenner, Lizzo, Erika Jayne amongst many others embraced the feathered fashion this year. Feathered fashion can be really dense giving the wearer a much fuller look or can be distributed sparsely to give a more airy and delicate look as Schiaparelli has opted for.

Full-Length Jackets

The long-jacket trend has been prominent throughout the year and takes on many forms such as the maxi coat, the over-sized trench, and even a cape. Melania Trump was recently seen sporting a long yellow cape coat while having tea with Prince Charles and his wife Camilla at their home in London. The long, full-length jackets give the wearer a very sleek look that is sharp and not fussy.

Crochet

The crochet look which used to be big in the '70s was seen dominating the runway this year inspiring the re-birth of the trend. In its latest avatar, crochet has taken the form of daring crop tops and bra tops. Many fashion giants opted to showcase the trend through long crochet dresses, lacy more sultry crochet dresses, crochet tops, crochet accessories and much more. Though crochet may have had a reputation for being a thing for grandmothers and textile geeks, the trend has evolved into a modern and racy look.

Ruffles and the 'full look'

Ruffles made a massive comeback during spring 2019. Ruffles became one of the most unlikely trends of the year and embraced by celebrities such as Rihanna and Olivia Culpo. The ruffles look is quite dramatic but has a lightness to it making it an addition in many designs this year.

One-sided Gowns

This is a style and trend that is the epitome of fashion luxury. The cold shoulder gown trend has been seen through the works of Antonio Grimaldi and Elie Saab. The look is a perfect balance between sexy but modest. The trend has been sported by many celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Emily Ratajkowski. The trend also lends itself to tops which is a little more casual than the one-sided gown.

'X' Tops

Scarf-tied tops were a major trend in the summer of 2019. Not only did the tops look beautiful, but they also looked comfortable. Fashion house Dundas heroed a similar look and had chosen to feature an inspired neckline. The top wraps around the body and is finished off as a halter behind the neck. The trend has been seen on not just tops but also dresses as is seen in Azzaro's designs.

Wild Life Prints

Wildlife prints have been all the rage during this year! The trend has evolved beyond the previous snake, crocodile, zebra, and giraffe inspired prints to whole new heights. With the juxtaposing of various prints to create a satisfyingly busy look, wildlife prints have set a much more modern trend. The trend lends itself to various apparel from clothes to sandals to accessories, the animal print trend held its own this year.

Wings for Days

The winged look has been inspired by the 1980s and the outfits feature structured drama. The play on the sleeves of such outfits changes and modifies the very silhouette of a person. Statement sleeves have been a major trend this 2019 and they can vary from very feminine to androgynous or even edgy.
