After Flavia Laos Urbina admitted her attraction to Jalen Olomu Brown, Joao Coronel surprised the audience with his reaction. Their conversation on their date ended in a cliffhanger at the end of episode 9. During their date, Joao stunned Flavia by performing a breakup song.

After Bri rejected Jalen's advances, he turned his attention to Flavia, who was briefly swayed. Although they didn’t break any of Lana's rules, their conversations led Flavia to reassess her feelings for Joao and whether she wanted to continue their relationship.

It took one of Lana's signature workshops to clear Flavia's mind, during which she realized she was sabotaging herself by running from a great relationship with Joao. She candidly shared her internal struggles and her newfound desire to make things work with him, but this honesty made Joao feel uneasy.

He questioned whether their relationship could succeed in the real world if her feelings could be so easily swayed during the retreat. Ultimately, he decided to end their relationship and delivered the news to Flavia with a breakup song during their date.
