Thomas Raskin, son of Maryland Rep Jamie Raskin and Sarah Bloom Raskin, died at the age of 25. The congressman's office confirmed the news on Thursday, December 31. “Tommy was pure magic. His brilliance and compassion knew no bounds. He passionately loved his family, friends, and animals, and was devoted to the cause of the global poor. We are devastated and demolished to be without him,” the congressman's office said in an official tweet.
Fondly known as Tommy, Thomas was a student at Harvard Law School. He was in his second year. The family did not announce a cause of death but we will update this space with the latest news once it is known.

Who are Jamie and Sarah Baskin?
Rep Jamin Ben Raskin, popularly known as Jamie Raskin, has been serving as the representative for Maryland since 2017. Prior to his involvement in politics, he was a constitutional law professor at the American University Washington College of Law. He was responsible for co-founding and directing the LLM program on Law and Government and also co-founded the Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project.
His wife, Sarah Bloom Raskin, is an attorney and formerly a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and a former US Deputy Treasury Secretary. She also served as Maryland Commissioner of Financial Regulation.

Thomas Raskin, 25, graduated from Amherst College in 2017. His Linkedin profile states he had been a teaching fellow in the undergraduate course General Education 1171: 'Justice: Ethics in an Age of Pandemic and Racial Reckoning'. “Tommy is survived by his beloved sisters Hannah and Tabitha, dozens of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and grandparents Arlene Bloom and Lynn Raskin,” the official statement added. “The family is grateful for the outpouring of support and love from neighbors, constituents, and friends but asks everyone to observe strict COVID-19 protocols during this time of grief.”
On Twitter, the Governor of Maryland, Larry Hogan, and First Lady Yumi Hogan extended their condolences to the Raskin family, saying, "The First Lady and I extend our deepest sympathies over this heartbreaking loss. I ask all Marylanders to keep the Raskin family in your prayers." Senator Ben Cardin shared “love and prayers” and wrote, “Team Maryland is with you always.”
