'Tom and Jerry': Release date, cast, plot and everything you need to know about Warner Bros live action hybrid movie
William Hanna and Joseph Barbara created one of the most iconic cartoons of all time in the 1940s, and now their creation is being made into a major feature film. Tom and Jerry was a series of slap-stick theatrical animated shorts that were created for laughs and earned the producers seven Academy Awards. Over the last two decades, there have been many re-created shorts for Tom and Jerry, and finally, Warner Bros has decided to give the cat and mouse some big screen time. Here's what we know about the movie so far.
Release date:
The cat and mouse chase with some bada-bing-bada-boom will hit theatres in April 2021.
Plot
Originally, Tom and Jerry, the cartoon has always been about the mouse trying to outwit the cat despite the latter taking desperate measures to nab his nemesis. However, there seems to be a different treatment with the movie. According to Deadline, Terrance (Michael Peña ), the general manager of the Park Hotel torments his hire, Kayla (Chloe Grace Moretz), to get rid of Jerry, who has no intentions of leaving the comforts of the hotel. Kayla then hires an alley cat, Tom, to take care of Jerry, only for the trio to eventually team up against Terrance. The story also reinvents how the cat and mouse duo meet and go on to become frenemies.

Michael Peña will play the antagonist and is shown to be a bit of a bully in the movie. The actor shot to limelight with his roles in 'Ant-Man', 'Ant-Man and the Wasp', 'The Martian' and 'American Hustle.'
Chloe Grace Moretz\
Moretz plays Kayla, an employee at the Park hotel trying desperately to impress her boss. She discovers Jerry, who is considered to be a menace and also runs the risk of ruining a wedding that would take place at the hotel. She enlists Tom, an alley cat, to help to oust Jerry from the hotel.
Writer/Director
'Tom and Jerry' will be directed by Tim Story ('Fantastic Four' and 'Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer'). Chris DeFaria is set to produce the latest adaptation with Story and Adam Goodman as executive producers.
Trailer
With the movie set to hit theatres only by 2021, the trailer will probably hit the screens only by the fall of 2020.

According to Screenrant, the film will be a live-action/animation hybrid, with the CGI versions of Tom and Jerry following the original structure and remaining non-speaking characters.
