NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The 'Today' hosts know how to pull each other's leg and call each other out for the mistakes. While it may be a regular thing between Craig Melvin and his co-hosts Al Roker and Sheinelle Jones are used to it, Jill Martin was taken aback the way Melvin called her out immediately for making a blunder.

Ahead of the weekend, the 'Today' hosts were joined by Martin to deliver latest news and headlines and soon enough became a part of healthy mockery. The hosts could not stop themselves from pulling fill-in host Martin's leg.

Martin's spelling spree turned into mockery

While the panel was discussing about 'Scripps National Spelling Bee' champion Dev Shah, Melvin was quick to mention that he won his middle school spelling bee competition back in his childhood. That immediate moment Jones turned to Martin to inquire whether or not she had participated in a similar level of competition back in her schooling days but she confidently responded, "No, but you know what I do know how to spell. B-I-L-L J-O-E-L", reports The Sun. That immediately caught the attention of Melvin who then, went ahead and sarcastically pointed out, "By the way, you left off the Y". Even Al seemed to have noticed how Martin missed out on the 'Y', which essentially may contribute in making her seem like a 'fake fan'.

Melvin is a 'spelling bee' champion

While the spelling blunder made by Martin may have irked the 'spelling bee' champion inside Melvin, it cannot be denied that he is a talented individual. It seems like Melvin went on to participate in district championship but ended up losing. Given that he still remembers the word that made him lose, he is still upset about the fact that he lost. He went ahead and mentioned to his co-hosts, "You know the word that I ended up losing on? License!"

Martin and Billy Joel are close

Martin immediately jumped onto clarification because she did not want to come under the aggressive radar of Billy Joel's fans. She said, "But I call him Bill because we're so close!" She also clarified that it made her upset that Joel had to move out of Madison Square Garden, where he was known for playing record number of shows.
