'Titans' Season 2 Episode 10 hints at Raven's powers having a mind of their own and this is quite confusing

UPDATED NOV 9, 2019

DC Universe's 'Titans' has been taking a lot of liberties with its source material when it comes to portraying the team's powers and capabilities. This is most obvious in the case of Teagan Croft's Rachel Roth / Raven.

In the comics, Raven's powers have been pretty clearly defined. She can move things with her mind, telepathically communicate with people, and manipulate a form of dark energy. The 'Titans' version of the character has displayed most of those powers plus a few new ones that make her seriously overpowered.

In Season 1, we saw Rachel resurrect a deer, which was extremely freaky but that's nothing compared to the feats she's pulled off since. From easily banishing the demon warlord Trigon (Seamus Dever) from the Earth to containing the power of the Sun, Rachel has seriously outdone herself in Season 2 and Episode 10 kicks things up a notch.

After ditching Donna Troy (Conor Leslie) in Episode 9, Rachel meets up with a fellow runaway and when that girl is threatened by a man, Rachel unleashes her darkness on him, slamming him into a wall. Now that's perfectly normal (relatively speaking) but what happens next is actually pretty confusing.

Even after Rachel powers down, a piece of her shadowy power is seen escaping into a stone gargoyle, bringing it to life and using it to kill the man whom Rachel had attacked. It's almost as if Rachel's powers have a mind of their own or perhaps her power responds to her unconscious desires.

Either way, she's already caused one death and it looks like Rachel's completely oblivious of the trail of bodies she's leaving in her wake. Thankfully, Donna is trying to find Rachel and it's probably in the best interests of everyone involved if Donna finds Rachel before someone more sinister can twist her into a weapon.

At this point, Rachel's powers are more or less whatever the writers need them to be but that can't last forever. We need to get a proper explanation of what Rachel's true capabilities are at some point and we hope we get answers sooner rather than later.

'Titans' Season 2 Episode 11 'E.L._.O.' will arrive on DC Universe on November 15.
