Tim Scott says he was called N-word but America is NOT a racist country: 'Even White folks don't believe that'
Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina on Wednesday, April 28 delivered the Republican rebuttal to President Joe Biden after POTUS addressed the first joint session of Congress. President Biden during his speech acknowledged the upward spike of race-based violence and asked the country to remain vigilant. "We won't ignore what our intelligence agencies have determined to be the most lethal terrorist threat to our homeland today: White supremacy is terrorism," he had said.
Scott, 55, is the junior senator from South Carolina and the only Black Republican senator in the Senate, who has served in Congress for a decade for South Carolina. He is focused on issues like police reform and opportunity zones. Before he took the podium, speculations were rife whether he would address the police reform bill, he, however, took the opportunity to say “America is not a racist country.”

Scott refuted the comments made by Biden earlier in the evening that called for major police reform to help combat systemic bias around the country. He countered it, saying: “Today, kids are being taught the color of their skin defines them again. If they look a certain way, they’re the oppressor.”
“I know firsthand our healing is not finished,” he remarked after the president's speech. "Hear me clearly: America is not a racist country. It is backward to fight discrimination with different types of discrimination. And it's wrong to try to use our painful past to dishonestly shut down the debates in the present," he added.

Called an 'Uncle Tom', 'n-word'
He claimed that Biden and other top Democrats have become too sensitive to prejudice when it comes to unrelated policy disagreements, claiming that "race is not a political weapon to settle every issue like one side wants". He scoffed at Democratic claims that voting rights limits enacted by Republican-controlled legislatures throughout the country were designed to exclude minorities from voting. "I’m an African-American who has voted in the South all my life. I take voting rights personally," he said in a tweet.
He said that being a Black man, he knows what it is like to face discrimination. "Nowhere do we need common ground more desperately than in our discussions of race. I have experienced the pain of discrimination. I know what it feels like to be pulled over for no reason—to be followed around a store while I’m shopping," he tweeted. He claimed he's been pulled over while driving "for no reason," pursued in stores while shopping, and dubbed a "Uncle Tom" and the n-word, among other things, by leftists.
'Deluded or just cynically manipulative?'
Twitter users wondered what the senator was thinking. "Is Tim Scott deluded or just cynically manipulative?" said one. "Who tricked Senator Tim Scott into believing the opposition response is a launching pad to a political future? Bobby Jindal, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, it's a political graveyard #JointSession," said another. A third put it to perspective as he wrote: "Tim Scott: “America is not a racist country” Also Tim Scott: They used to teach racism in schools. Also T.S., but 10 mins later: I get followed around in stores. Same Tim: School choice will fix unequal education! Timmy: Also, my granddaddy can’t read… Still no racism, tho".

'Tim Scott dropped his soul'

"Tim Scott declared America isn’t racist while standing 500 ft from where white supremacists overtook our Capitol three months ago," another chipped in.
