Tim Scott ends presidential campaign, leaves Fox News host stunned at unexpected move
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Not even a week after the third GOP debate, presidential hopeful Tim Scott has exited the race. But it was no simple announcement as what was supposed to be a simple appearance on Fox News turned out to be his first reveal of this major decision.
The senator, who had just appeared on 'Sunday Night in America', left host Trey Gowdy shocked as he was listening to the news for the first time from Scott himself.
Tim Scott claims voters don't want him right now
While Growdy had just asked Scott about his upcoming plans for the campaign, he went on to announce his step back from the race.
"When I go back to Iowa, it will not be as a presidential candidate. I am suspending my campaign," the senator said.
He also cited his voters as the reason to make the decision so far into the race.
"I think the voters, who were the most remarkable people on the planet have been really clear that they are telling me 'Not now, Tim'. I don't think they are saying no but I do think they are saying not now. So, I'm going to respect the voters and I'm going to hold on and work really hard and look forward to the other opportunity."
Fox News host shocked at Tim Scott's campaign suspension
Growdy, who was clearly not expecting Scott's announcement, questioned him over such a major decision.
"You are- you are suspending your presidential campaign?" Gowdy asked, still recovering from the shock, "You have plenty of money. You have the highest approval numbers of any candidate that is running and you’re a couple of states from coming to a state where you are beloved, and you are suspending your presidential campaign?”
The former presidential candidate then went on to quote the Roman 8:28 scripture.
"All things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to his purpose. I think the message is clear for me right now. I am indeed suspending the campaign."
