Tiffany hosts ‘Trump pride’ event and lauds father's support for community, Internet says 'it's fooling no one'

'You can tell Trump doesn’t care about LGBT people because he has his least favourite child assigned to the job,' one quipped on Twitter

Tiffany Trump became Internet's favorite object of trolling on Tuesday, October 20, after she hosted a Pride event for her father, President Donald Trump, to help him in getting more votes over the weekend. The event, ‘Trump pride’, was held at the Westshore Grand Hotel in Florida. The event site proudly stated that Trump “is the only President to openly support the LGBT community since his first day in office. President Trump stands in solidarity with LGBT citizens by supporting and enacting policies and initiatives that protect the wellbeing and prosperity of all gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender Americans.”

It added: “TRUMP PRIDE is a diverse coalition dedicated to re-electing President Trump, the first President to begin his presidency in support of marriage equality. Through his bold plan to end the HIV epidemic to his global campaign to decriminalize homosexuality in the 69 nations where it is illegal, President Trump has proven himself to be a strong advocate for the LGBT community both at home and abroad.”

The event and its message seemed at variance with Trump, whose government has time and again shown carelessness towards protecting the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. But what looked even more bizarre during the event on Saturday, October 17, was Tiffany's claim that she has gay friends and her father “always supported” the community. Besides, she also forgot to add “T” in the acronym which is for transgenders.

"I know what my father believes in. Prior to politics, he [Trump] supported gays, lesbians, the LGBQIIA+ community," the youngest daughter of the president said as she began her speech. “It saddens me. I have friends of mine who reach out and they say how could you support your father, we know your best friends are gay. We know your best friends are this, this, this. I say, ‘It’s because my father has always supported all of you.’ OK?”

Trump shares Tiffany with second wife Marla Maples, a former Broadway actress, who was also present during the event. “Unfortunately, one of her best friends passed away from AIDS and what I think is so powerful when my father says there will be a cure for AIDS within the next 10 years, there will be and God bless,” the 27-year-old added.

But the internet was not happy with Tiffany's statements and soon people started trolling her. One user said, “Tiffany trump headlining republican pride... chaos... in the worst way..." A second user tweeted: “To be honest, I'm not bothered that she's drunk. She's there to have a good time... I guess. But she's also not appearing to be treating Coronavirus with any gravity, and she's showing how little Trump understands what gay rights even mean. He's ACTIVELY discriminated for years.”

“Tiffany Trump is the epitome of the straight girl having her bachelorette party at a gay club, barfing all over it, not tipping and thinking that constitutes “having gay friends.” And fuck her for leaving out our trans family. There IS NO LGBTQ WITHOUT THE T,” said the third user. While the fourth one added: “She’s clearly saying that after politics he stopped supporting them. So what the hell is she doing in a Trump Pride gathering? Why is she there? Why is anyone there? She’s clearly telling you that he no longer supports LGBTQIA+ (especially trans people).”

“You can tell Trump doesn’t care about LGBT people because he has his least favourite child assigned to the job,” wrote the fifth one. Civil rights attorney Michele Rayner said as reported by the South Florida Gay News, “Donald Trump is delusional if he thinks he can spend three years attacking our rights and then turn around and ask for our vote. Waving a rainbow flag for an afternoon means nothing after his administration appointed dozens of anti-LGBTQ judges to federal courts, codified discrimination against transgender Americans, and are fighting to overturn the Affordable Care Act, and its protections for our community.”

Executive Director of Equality Florida Action, Inc. Nadine Smith added: “Donald Trump is the worst President the LGBTQ community has ever seen. This event is a pathetic attempt to hide his appalling record and it’s fooling no-one. We are tired of Trump’s lies and our community understands a second term would be devastating.”
