Meghan's father recalls moment she called to tell him about new boyfriend: 'He's British... he's Prince Harry'
Meghan Markle's estranged father, Thomas Markle, recalled the very moment that the former 'Suits' actress called him on the phone to tell him about her new boyfriend.
In 2016, after Meghan met Prince Harry, Thomas shared, "She calls me on the phone and she said, 'I've got a new boyfriend.' I said, 'Great' and she says, 'He's British'. I said 'OK' and she said, 'He's a prince.' I said 'Alright,' and she said, 'He's Prince Harry'. I said, 'Oh, OK'." He added that he 'didn't know what it meant' that she was dating a member of the royal family.
"I didn't know what it meant. She could have been dating a Hollywood star and it would have been just as important to me because you know either way they are both 'high numbers'. She said, 'Do you want to talk to him?' and handed him the phone. He said 'hello' in a very British way and we talked a bit and that was nice," he continued.
Thomas also fears that his daughter or her husband Prince Harry won't see him until he is 'lowered into the ground'. While speaking in Channel 5's new documentary 'Thomas Markle: My Story' that airs on Wednesday night, Thomas shared that he believes that Meghan and Harry are 'not thrilled' with him.
During the interview, Thomas said, "The last time they might see me is being lowered into the ground. I don't think at this point they're thrilled to see me or want to talk to me," he continued. Thomas' comments follow the Queen's aides finalizing a deal for the couple who announced that they would be stepping back as senior royals in the hopes of becoming financially independent.
The new documentary looks into the background of Meghan and Thomas' 'complicated' relationship and their fallout in the weeks leading up to her wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018.
