The Republican senator is in a very grateful marriage but he had a tough phase in his married life in the initial days

North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis has joined the bandwagon of US politicians testing Covid-19 positive. Thom Tillis took to Twitter on October 2 to write, “Tonight my Covid-19 test came back positive. I’m following the recommendations of my doctor. Thankfully, I have no symptoms and feel well. Covid is a very contagious virus. If you were exposed or start to display symptoms, please call your doctor, self-isolate, and get tested.”

Thom Tillis’s office has issued a statement saying that a test on Friday, October 2, for Covid-19 came out to be positive. In that statement, Tillis mentioned he has been going for the tests at a regular basis. He stated that he’s going to isolate for 10 days and is reaching out to those he’s been in contact with. “As we all know, Covid-19 is a very contagious and deadly virus, especially because many carriers are asymptomatic,” he stated. Further, he urged North Carolina residents to wear masks, be socially distanced, and wash hands.

Pilot Online reported that Tillis has mostly supported mask-wearing. He was among the small minority of attendees at a President Donald Trump rally in Winston-Salem seen wearing a mask on September 8. Tillis' opponent in the Senate race, Democrat Cal Cunningham, said on Twitter that he would get tested himself after the two men shared a stage on October 1 for their third Senate debate. The two men were photographed greeting each other by bumping elbows at the event. Cunningham tweeted, “I'm wishing Thom Tillis a quick recovery following his positive Covid-19 test, and am thinking of him and his family. Because I was with Senator Tillis recently on the debate stage, I will also get tested.” Senior producer at MSNBC Kyle Griffin wrote on October 2, “Thom Tillis was at the White House last Saturday for the Amy Coney Barrett announcement.” A user posted a picture of Tillis from the third and final Senate debate. “Here he is last night greeting Democratic challenger Cal Cunningham before a debate. They look like they're having a good time.”

Amid such news, Tillis' family might as well be concerned for him given he is contesting the Senate elections on November 3. While the Republican party leader is well known in the political realm, here is a look at his past relationships and marriage.

Thom Tillis is married to Susan, who is his second wife. The couple has been living in Cornelius, North Carolina, and has two children. Susan has a career in the field of real estate and has worked at Allen Tate Realtors in Davidson, North Carolina since 2005 as reported by Heavy. The website further reported that Susan stepped down from her managerial duties at Allen Tate Realtors in 2013 so she could work full time as a volunteer for her husband’s campaign. 

The site reported that during the 2014 Senate elections, Susan Tillis took on an active role in her husband’s campaign, appearing with him at numerous campaign stops. This included participating in the RNC’s '14 in ’14 Initiative' which was meant to engage female voters between the ages of 21 and 40. “What I find traveling across the state is the more North Carolinians hear about Thom’s working-class background and the reforms he’s implemented in Raleigh to help families, the more excited they get about sending him to Washington,” Susan Tillis said in August 2014, as per Citizen Times. She added, “I was thrilled to work with so many wonderful ladies this week through the 14 in ’14 Initiative, as there are so many critical issues at the center of this election. It’s clear the Republican Party is the way for women in North Carolina.”

Susan is also the founder and chair of the organization called Susan M Tillis Foundation. With the organization, she works to provide the necessary tools and assistance to veteran families nationwide. She currently works as a branch leader for Allen Tate Realtors as per Heavy. Thom Tillis adores his marriage with Susan and has shown this many times through his social media posts. He wrote in a 2016 tweet, “Happy Valentines Day to these amazing women. My mother Margie, daughter Lindsay, wife Susan & mother-in-law Jeanette.”

Thom Tillis might have been living a graceful life with his dear wife Susan but he also had a tough phase in love life. Tillis married his high school girlfriend at the age of 19. They divorced after a year and a half but later remarried, only to divorce again a short time later as reported by Charlotte Observer. The site quotes him, “It was really sad. It was tough to go through.” The name of the woman is not known yet.
