For the last few weeks, ‘This Is Us’ Season 6 has been teasing us about how Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Toby’s (Chris Sullivan) relationship ends. From changing places to Jack getting injured, we all knew that it was coming and it finally did. The first scene of the latest episode confirmed that Kate and Philip (Chris Geere) are getting married. Even though Toby said yes to the Los Angeles job and even for the couple’s therapy, it didn’t work out because the differences were too damn big.

Things get worse when Kate comes late to the therapy sessions and Toby starts taking shots at her. As soon as we come to the present scenario, we see Kate and Philip throwing an engagement party and Kevin (Justin Hartley) wants to give the speech. Toby calls Kate and says that he now understands what she said on the day of their divorce. We also get a glimpse of why did everything lead to that fateful day. The couple’s therapy was not working and every day, it was something or the other.

Meanwhile, Philip proposed to Kate at her house in front of the kids. Jack and Hailey were really happy and encouraged Kate to say ‘YES’. The couple went for the therapy once again and the therapist told them to have dinner alone. However, the dinner date turned very ugly when Kate criticized Toby for how he put Hailey to bed. She did it and Toby exploded, apologizing for not being a father like Jack Pearson. They yell at each other and that’s when Baby Jack (Johnny Kincaid) called them for help. He said that his ‘Boba Fett’ fell in the bathroom and they need to help him by not yelling at each other.

Toby meets Philip in a bar and talks about how he should behave in front of his kids. He said that he should never yell around and at them. Philip was really considerate and heard him wholeheartedly. In the last moments of that scene, Toby makes him understand how big American Football is for Kate and her family.

But the moment finally arrived and we saw Kate and Toby getting divorced. In one of the most heartbreaking scenes, they enter the elevator and hear the song ‘I will always love you”. They started laughing together and when the elevator opened, they just went in their respective directions.

Then, we see Kate and Philip going on a date together. Kate is really confused about Philip because he is a womanizer, so she wanted to know what does he want to do? Philip makes her understand how he has been miserable in his life as well and how his first marriage didn’t work. He never felt happy and he does feel happy when he is around Kate. They both kiss each other.

The ending moments of the episode see Kate and Toby together after the kids spent the day with their dad. While getting Jack to bed, he sees them and says “You’re together again”. This makes Toby emotional and he tells Kate that they should give their marriage a chance again. However, Kate didn’t want it even after Toby said that this isn’t how their story can end.

Kate was not ready and Toby left the house. The episode ended with Kate and Toby co-parenting while having a good relationship with Philip as well. Jack and Hailey loved around being their dad. On the other hand, Tony finally met someone and moved on, but Kate told Toby that this is not how their story ends and one day, he’ll see it.

Meanwhile, in the future, Adult Jack and his wife Lucy come to meet Kate and Toby, who are there with their significant others. Jack says, “you’re both here”.

In the flashback scene, we see Toby calling Kate and telling her the thing she told him on the day of their divorce, he finally sees it now.
