‘This Is Us’ Season 5 Episode 3: Who is Randall's Black therapist? These theories suggest it is his ‘half-brother’
A surprise can spring up any time on ‘This Is Us’ and last week, it was the big revelation about Randall Pearson's biological mother Laurel. In the two-hour premiere, we also found out that Randall told his therapist he didn't want to see her anymore and look for a Black therapist instead. Explaining how he cannot tell her many things he feels, he decided to take that step and since then, many fans sparked the theory of how his therapist could be his mother. Soon, ‘This Is Us’ writers debunked that theory and wrote: “She is not going to end up as Randall’s therapist.” Now, there seem to be newer theories around who it could be.
In a new promo, Randall tells Beth, “I think I found my guy to replace Dr Leigh.” Surprised, she asks, “Did you talk about family stuff?” Randall replies, “Just generally... We talked about transracial identity. I'm having a longer Zoom session with him today but he checks all the boxes, Beth.” Randall continues, “He's cool, smart, funny, Black, young father... We got a lot in common.” Catch the promo here:

Now, fans can't stop wondering who it could be. “I bet Randall’s new therapist is his half-brother or something like that,” one said. Another thought, “I’m about 3 weeks late, but hear me out: prediction: Randall’s new therapist will be his BROTHER. #ThisIsUs.”
Many others pointed out how it could be someone related to him, most probably, his biological brother. “Two semi-random #ThisIsUs predictions: 1. Rebecca will get Covid, allowing a pregnant Mandy Moore to stay in bed for at least some of season 2. Randall’s black therapist will either be Laurel or be somehow related to her,” one said and another posted, “I’m a little late to the party but I’m calling it now Randall‘s new therapist is not his mom like everyone keeps thinking I think it’s going to be his biological brother he doesn’t know about! #ThisIsUs.”

As for who really will be Randall's therapist, here's a little hint. The new episode has a cast addition of Keith Powell and he is said to be playing the role of Dr Vance on the show. Who is Keith Powell? Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Powell moved to California and studied at St Mark's High School in Wilmington, Delaware. He also earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in 2001.
Before his ‘This Is Us’ role, the actor and writer has also been seen in ‘30 Rock’ (2006), ‘About a Boy’ (2014) and ‘Train Baby’ (2015). He has been married to Jill Knox since October 12, 2013. When Randall meets him again, he tries to prove his racial identity by telling him his wife is Black. The therapist assures Randall that he has nothing to prove in their sessions about who he is. As “homework”, he asks Randall to pen down an experience from his childhood.
Titled ‘Changes’, the summary of the next episode reads: “Kevin and Madison navigate their engagement as Kate and Toby take a big step in their adoption journey. Jack and Rebecca brace for puberty.” The two-hour episode of ‘This Is Us’ premiered on Tuesday, October 27, at 9 pm ET on NBC. Following that, you can catch one-hour episodes starting at 9 pm. Catch the third episode ‘Changes’ on November 10 at 9 pm ET.
