‘This Is Us’ Season 5 Episode 11: Is Cassidy Nicky and Sally’s daughter? This theory explains why it can't be true
A surprise guest, a beautiful love story and plenty of unanswered questions... The latest episode of ‘This Is Us’ — ‘One Small Step’ — begins with Nicky Pearson's (Griffin Dunne) grand gesture for Kevin Pearson (Justin Hartley) and dips its toes into his past with Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia) too.
Through all his ups and downs, the one person who stands by him is Cassidy Sharp (Jennifer Morrison). Fans have been wondering for a long time if she will turn out to be his child with Sally (Genevieve Angelson). However, one theory explains why the rumors are not true.

“Nicky tells the story about Sally, the woman he was in love with, before he went to Vietnam. It made me wonder if Cassidy could be Nicky's daughter. Until I did the math. Nicky went to Vietnam in the early 70's. Which would make Cassidy close to 50 if she was conceived before he got drafted. Sorry, not believable. That doesn't mean these writers won't try it though,” one fan posted on Reddit.
Another said, “Another reason could be because not everyone you meet during your lifetime is your daughter with a long lost lover. Not all characters that appear in this show are connected by blood to each other. You didn't have to go through with the math to come to that simple conclusion.
Also, that would mean Kevin slept with his cousin, which just... No.”
“There was a big deal made during the Jack Damon song Memorized to focus on Cassidy, then Nicky during the line 'could a stranger, ever end up being you?'. I got the impression that Cassidy was brought on board because she is a stranger that is going to somehow become (or already is) significant to Nicky. And it is too gross to think of her as a possible love interest, considering the age difference,” a third post read.
Another wrote, “Also wasn’t Cassidy in the car when Nicky was talking about Sally? You’d think she’d have some response like 'My mom is named Sally and she never told me who my father is'. Just kidding—This is Us is never that direct — but I saw nothing on her face that indicated a relationship with Sally and Cassidy.”

The latest Episode 11 titled ‘One Small Step’ was televised on March 23, 2021, at 9 pm ET. The episode will be able to stream on Hulu the next day, on March 24, 2021.
