‘This Is Us’ Season 5 Episode 10: Will Deja and Malik break up over ex-girlfriend Jennifer after Randall's advice?
“You all right? Something on your mind?” Randall Pearson (Sterling K Brown) asks Malik Hodges (Asante Blackk) on the latest episode of ‘This Is Us’ as he comes for advice. Cheerily, Randall retorts in his typical daddy style, “My daughter has never come to me for advice, and I am so full of advice...”
This week, the beloved NBC show goes on to peek into the lives of Randall's daughters and shows awkward dinner conversations. Annie (Faithe C Herman) picks up her phone at the dinner table and her grandmother snaps, “At my school, the children leave their phones in their lockers during important events.”

In a major shocker, Beth finds out that Tess is dating her best friend and blasts on her mom: “So my daughter thinks she cannot talk to me. You can add that to the list of all things you feel are not perfect about me. The only time I feel conscious about our family is when you are sitting there judging us. We can't go back to normal until you go back take all your judgement with you...”
Meanwhile, Deja notices Malik getting too many texts and is suspicious. “Why are you getting so many texts from Jennifer?” When he glances at Randall, Deja quizzes, “Okay, what's going on? Why do you keep looking at each other?”
The reason why Randall knows is that Malik turned to Randall for help just for that reason. “It's actually about my kid... Her mom wants to come back into her life. Now she wants to be involved, he tells him.
Teary-eyed and slightly emotional, Randall remembers his past and says, “Tough thing to give advice about. It was a big hole for me not knowing my birth mother. If I had the chance I would have wanted to know my mother a lot earlier. In his view, Malik should let the child's mom come back into their life. But wouldn't that hurt his relationship with Deja? Well, seems like it.”
When Deja is pissed, Randall goes up to her. “My boyfriend's ex-girlfriend is coming back to his life. At one time, they liked each other enough to have a baby with each other. What if they like each other again? he complains. Randall then tells her, “You are so grown up. I forget you are just a 15 year old... To lighten up the mood, he says, “You wanna go to Jennifer's Instagram and trash talk?”
For now, Randall seems to have smoothened the line but will that help in the long run? Will Jennifer ruin Deja and Malik's relationship?
Little is known about Malik's daughter Janelle’s mom, apart from the fact that she signed over full parental rights of her daughter to Malik. In an interview, Dan Fogelman had hinted it could spark trouble in Deja and Malik's paradise. He said the storyline will be “less about” her relationship with Malik and “more about what it means from Deja’s point of view,” adding, “This young girl is not just Malik’s ex-girlfriend. She’s an ex-girlfriend who is the mother of his child — a child he spends all of his time and energy on. So it makes it complicated for her.”

‘This Is Us’ premiered on Tuesday at 9 pm ET on NBC after the mid-season winter break with Episode 5 titled ‘A Long Road Home’ on January 5, 2021. There was a two-week break before Episode 10 titled ‘I've Got This’ was televised on March 16, 2021, at 9 pm ET.
The episode will be able to stream on Hulu the next day, on March 17, 2021.
