'The Voice' Season 19: Carter Rubin picks Team Gwen after 'powerful' act, fans call him a 'teen heartbreaker'

The judges were shocked to see that he was only 14 as he did not sound like one. Blake even said he has 'more control over his voice' than most people his age

Carter Rubin, a 14-year-old kid from Staten Island, turned up at the blind auditions in the latest episode of 'The Voice' Season 19 and easily floored Gwen Stefani and John Legend after he covered Lewis Capaldi's 'Before You Go'. However, he could not impress coaches Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson as they did not turn their big red chairs around till the end.

Gwen and John were shocked to see that he was only 14 as he did not sound like one. Speaking on the same lines to Rubin, Blake asserted, “I know, you were younger but did not know this young.” John also praised the young chap and said, “You sounded polished. You sounded strong. Your voice has control which a lot of people of your age wouldn’t have and your tone is piercing and brilliant and it just shimmers out there.”

Gwen also addressed the kid and revealed that she has a 14-year-old and that he could always call her mom. Rubin, while going with his gut feeling, in the end opted for #TeamGwen. The Internet was also mesmerised by the young lad’s performance. One user tweeted, “What a beautiful voice.  He is going to be a teen heart breaker.” Another person expressed, “I seriously cried.  What a voice.”

One individual added, “OMG, so much talent in a youth that I’ve ever heard! Congrats Carter!” Another said, “Girl you're the winner of this season with Carter Rubin he got the voice of an angle gave my goosebumps.”

Season 19 of ‘The Voice’ premiered on October 19, 2020. As of now, Team Legend has four contestants — Tamara Jade, John Holiday, Cami Clune and Sid Kingsley. Team Blake consists of Ian Flanigan, Jim Ranger, Taryn Papa, Aaron Scott, Jus Jon and the latest Ben Allen. Team Kelly boasts maximum contestants as of now with Joseph Soul, Eli Zamora, Marisa Corvo, Madeline Consoer and Ryan Gallagher whereas Team Gwen got lucky with Lauran Frihauf, Payge Turner, Liam St. John, Chloe Hogan and the latest Ryan Berg.

The new season of ‘The Voice’ is being hosted by Carson Daly. Season 19 episodes will be aired on NBC. Fans can also catch the singing reality show on the official website of NBC and on their official app along with the network's new streaming service Peacock. Todd Tilghman was announced as last season's winner from Team Blake at the age of 42 making him the oldest winner in the series history, a record previously held by Josh Kaufman.
