Theranos' Elizabeth Holmes trolled as it's revealed she booked one-way ticket to Mexico after conviction
SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA: Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes was found guilty of cheating investors out of millions of dollars and was given an 11-year sentence by a federal judge. In surprising new claims, prosecutors alleged that the fraudster tried to flee the country after buying a one-way ticket to Mexico following her conviction. The prosecutors made the claim in a court filing on Thursday, January 19, opposing Holmes' request to remain free on bail.
The filing stated, "Contrary to Defendant’s assertion that she has a ‘flawless record with US Pretrial Services, the incentive to flee has never been higher." It was revealed that the prosecutors unearthed the one-way ticket to Mexico on January 23, 2022, that the 38-year-old biotechnology entrepreneur had bought. The filing read, "Only after the government raised this unauthorized flight with defense counsel was the trip canceled. The government anticipates Defendant will note in reply that she did not in fact leave the country as scheduled—but it is difficult to know with certainty what defendant would have done had the government not intervened." Holmes' attorney Lance Wade deferred this booking as a prior travel reservation.

Wade writes, "In general, this was a reservation that was made before the verdict. The hope was that the verdict would be different and Ms. Holmes would be able to make this trip to attend the wedding of close friends. Given the verdict, she does not plan to take the trip…But she also had not yet canceled the trip, amidst everything that has been going on." The prosecution increased the weight of their claims by relating her travel plans with her partner. They noted that her partner, "William Evans, left on the scheduled date with a one-way ticket and did not return until approximately six weeks later, returning from a different continent," reports The Daily Beast. The news, however, has served as quaint entertainment for people online.
