SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA: A 52-year-old New Jersey resident, Theoharis Lekas, has sued the Trump International Beach Resort in Florida after suffering third-degree burns from a 'searing’ hot pool deck and beach sand that led to the loss of a toe and a part of his foot. Lekas filed the lawsuit on Friday, April 28, with the New York Supreme Court claiming that the resort was negligent and failed to notify signs recommending footwear.

According to DailyMail, the lawsuit filed by Matsikoudis & Fanciullo LLC states that the surfaces within the resort were "scorching hot" during Lekas' August 2022 stay, causing "devastating" third-degree burns to both his feet. He also stated that he could not feel his feet burning as he suffers from diabetic neuropathy which "caused him to lose feeling in his feet."

Doctors amputated Theoharis Lekas' foot

Lekas said he realized his feet had burns on the final day of the trip, when he tried to put socks on and noticed they were peeling, according to the court filing. The lawsuit claimed that after getting home, the condition worsened and he had to bandage up his feet and rush to the hospital. His right foot developed a “bullet-hole-shaped ulcer,” which “grew wider and deeper, until it reached the bone,” while his left foot healed from the severe burns. Lekas reported that after that, one of his toes turned black and became gangrenous. This resulted in doctors amputating the foot.

Lekas’ attorney Bill Matsikoudis told DailyMail that the amount of damages claimed will probably be “north of $1 million.” However, the lawsuit states that "the wound remains unhealed, posing a significant threat to his health, and that he has 'been told to expect further surgeries'." Speaking on it, Matsikoudis told the outlet, "The lawsuit speaks for itself - the resort was negligent. We're hoping the damages don't increase. There is the prospect his injuries could worsen."

'This is the most ridiculous lawsuit'

Following the news of the lawsuit, many were quick to react. One said, "This is the most ridiculous lawsuit I’ve ever heard of. If he was burned that bad, it’s obvious he waited way too long for help! After 2 days or less, I would have had it treated before it came to this!" One user suggested, "Wear flip flops" while another questioned, "Is Trump to blame for the sun too?" Meanwhile, one of many pointed out, "That's his fault." Another individual hilariously commented, "He should sue the dude in the mirror."
