‘The Voice’: Who is Sid Kingsley? Here’s how Virginia crooner had the most interesting journey so far
Richmond, Virginia-based singer-songwriter Sid Kingsley has been one of the top contenders in Season 19 of ‘The Voice’ from day one. The 37-year-old crooner has had the most interesting journey so far. He has seen the big red chairs turning for him within seconds. He has lost a few rounds and yet he survived in the show, all thanks to the “save” and “steal” option which we feel the judges have used the most on him. In the truest sense, Kingsley’s journey has nothing been short of a roller coaster ride. He most recently performed ‘Make It Rain’ in the Knockouts against Desz from Kelly Clarkson’s team. Unfortunately, Kelly picked Desz over him for the Live playoffs.
Now, just when we thought his journey in the singing reality show was over, John Legend pressed the red buzzer to “steal” the singer for his team. However, it was not that easy as John thought, as Blake Shelton also pressed the red buzzer with an intention to pick Kingsley for his team. After both the judges tried convincing him, he ultimately went for Blake Shelton. The Internet was quick to react to the whole situation. One user said, “I would've gone w/Sid - he was great & sang a hit song. So important to connect with America.” Another expressed, “So glad Sid was stolen. He deserves to go on!” One fan added, “Desz, her range is out of this world. Sid, gives me goosebumps. What a Knockouts !!!! #VoiceKnockouts.” “Thank goodness both of them are in the Live Playoffs. They truly deserve this,” said another.

The twists and turns from the Knockouts also reminded us of Kingsley’s blind auditions where he had performed a rendition of Bob Dylan's ‘Don't Think Twice, It's All Right’ and floored John Legend the moment he started performing. Sharing the same feeling, Gwen Stefani was only a second behind John Legend to press the buzzer and turn around her chair followed by Blake Shelton. Kingsley would have got all the four chairs, however, Kelly Clarkson did not press the buzzer. Out of all the three judges, Kingsley then went for John Legend despite his mother’s advice for Blake Shelton and now, his journey came full circle when he picked the country legend in the Knockouts.
A similar situation happened in the blind auditions when John Legend picked the 18-year-old Bailey Rae over Kingsley which came as a shocker to Kelly Clarkson. We, all remember how Kelly called herself an idiot when she did not turn around for Kingsley in the blind auditions. Rectifying her mistake, she immediately pressed the red buzzer to “steal” the talented crooner for her team. It will be interesting to see, how Kingsley’s journey will prove to be ahead of the Knockouts.
According to NBC’s official website, Kingsley was inspired to learn the saxophone in the fourth grade after his father got him hooked on jazz. In college, he taught himself to play the piano and also met his fiancee, Gabrielle. She was the one who encouraged Kingsley to start singing, but it wasn't until years later that he actually sang in front of a crowd. For the past six years, Kingsley has been actively singing and performing soul music and recently started releasing songs online. Kingsley’s first album, ‘Good Way Home’ was released in 2017 via American Paradox Records, as published by Richmond.com. He released an additional 11 singles in 2020 alone.
