Blake Shelton, who has been on ‘The Voice’ since its inception in 2011, is very picky when it comes to choosing contestants for his team and we rarely get to see Blake going all in for a contestant on the singing reality show. Well, the rare incident happened when the 55-year-old Wendy Moten stood in front of all the coaches during the first round of Season 21’s blind auditions.

Wendy, who has been singing for more than 30 years, belted out The Beatles’ hit single ‘We Can Work It Out’ to absolutely mesmerize the judges. Interestingly, Moten had a chart-topping hit single back in the 90’s called ‘Come In Out of the Rain’ before she began singing backup and duets with Julio Iglesias, Vince Gill, Michael McDonald, John Oates and others. Moten also got the undivided attention of social media users after Blake dubbed her performance as “Top 3 Blind Audition of All Time” but also called her out for picking the wrong team. Speaking of the latest season of ‘The Voice’, Ariana Grande joined the panel for the very first time replacing Nick Jonas from the previous season.

Who is Wendy Moten?

Moten hails from Nashville, Tennessee and she was the last performer on day one of the blind auditions.  Moten quickly became an instant favorite of the judges as soon as she started her performance on The Beatles’ ‘We Can Work It Out’. Moten, who enjoys more than 15K followers on Instagram, has dedicated her entire life to singing. Speaking of her performance, Blake was the very first one to turn around quickly followed by John Legend and Ariana. Kelly Clarkson, who claimed she got caught up in the performance, was the last one to turn around, making it another four-chair turn on day one. John, however, was soon blocked by Blake.

Ariana tried her best to convince Moten to pick her as her coach for the rest of the journey on the singing reality show.  The pop singer asserted, “What a privilege for them to have shared the stage with you! You are spectacular and I need you to be in the foreground. It's time.” Whereas, John added, “Your mastery of your instrument is beyond. You have so much light in your voice. You really are phenomenal and we are lucky to have you." However, the biggest compliment came from Blake after he claimed that Wendy’s performance was definitely an all-time top three blind audition. “That is top three Blind Auditions for The Voice, all time. You found a note and delivered it with power and impact. It was shocking.” He then joked, “It blew the color out of my hair!" In the end, it was Blake who got lucky as Wendy picked the country legend as her coach. Speaking on the surprise pick, Ariana claimed that she was “heartbroken” adding “My earth is shattered. Blake's the real deal."

‘Wendy chose the wrong team’, claims Twitter

Just like Ariana, a majority of social media users were in shock after Moten opted for Team Blake. Many shared a common opinion that she should have gone for Ariana. “Her performance was insane. the notes”, said one user as another tweeted, “Okay but wait, Wendy’s been in the music industry for 35 years. She HAS to know what she’s doing by picking Blake. Right? RIGHT?”

One added, “John, Ariana, Kelly have to level up now, Blake got Wendy !” Whereas, another person claimed, “Wendy chose the wrong team #TheVoice” The next one added, “I cant believe wendy. how are you trying to get back in the music industry and choose BLAKE?! like she could’ve even choose kelly. but BLAKE?!” One chimed in and posted, “Hold please while I pick my jaw off the ground! @blakeshelton getting Wendy was the most unreal win so far! This is going to be the BEST season!” Meanwhile, one said, “Wendy I’m rooting for you all the way bout bad choice my girl bad choice. But you gat this.” And, another concluded, “God, Wendy should've choose Ariana but still rooting for her.”
