'The Voice' Season 19: Gwen Stefani bags Van Andrew, fans say 'he even has a rocker name'
A few seconds before new contestant Van Andrew finished his performance, he managed to grab Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s attention as they both pressed the buzzer and turned their big chairs around almost at the same time.
The 29-year-old crooner covered the popular number 'Behind Blue Eyes' by The Who. Kelly Clarkson and John Legend did not turn their chairs around. In one of the behind the scenes, Van Andrew tells how his family first got affected by the tornado and then the unfortunate Covid-19 hit which further led him to focus on his music. After getting praises from all the coaches after his performance, it was Gwen Stefani who managed to bag Van Andrew in the end.
A lot of ‘The Voice’ followers on Twitter also expressed their sentiments on the new contestant. One user asserted, “okay van andrew is exactly my type and he sang a song by The Who, i definitely have a favorite now.” Another expressed, “Van Andrew kinda tripped into the opening. Took him a few seconds to find his footing, but when he did... Gwen said very cool. Way to switch it up and show some intensity and range. That last scream was crazy. Lol. Congrats! #TheVoice #VoiceBlinds.”
One individual added, “Van Andrew even has a rocker name. I hope they don’t try and turn him into a pop star. #TheVoice” Another slammed the new contestant and the judges and said, “Horrible...he butchered the Who...and Roger...shame on you all for putting him through...”
