‘The Voice’ Season 19: Gwen Stefani picks Payge Turner over Ryan Berg in knockouts, fans call it 'dumb decision'

After three dramatic episodes of battle rounds, ‘TheVoice’ Season 19 finally entered the Knockouts premiere. R&B icon and eight-time Grammy award winner Usher, who has been a coach in one of the earlier seasons of ‘The Voice’ also made his comeback as a Mega Mentor on Season 19 of the singing reality show. Now, the best part of the Knockouts is contestants get to pick their own song.

Gwen Stefani picked singer Payge Turner and country crooner Ryan Berg for the Knockouts premiere from her team. Turner opted for ‘Creep’ by Radiohead to floor the judges, whereas Berg went for ‘Makin’ Me Look Good Again’ by Drake White with the same intention. Mega Mentor Usher along with Gwen was seen giving crucial tips to both the contestants.

Coach Kelly Clarkson was completely in awe of both the singers after their performance ended and said how difficult it is going to be for Gwen to pick the best one for the next round. John Legend and Blake Shelton seemed equally ecstatic and praised both the singers. While speaking to Ryan, Blake said how he surprises with his voice every time. The nail-biting experience surely gave the chills to Gwen Stefani and after much deliberation, the singer picked Payge Turner as her choice for the next round. Unfortunately, none of the judges used the “steal” option to save Ryan Berg and he had to cut short his journey right there.

Hardcore fans of the reality show were quick to react to the knockout rounds on Twitter. One user asserted, “@NBCTheVoice After the advice from Usher, @turner_payge definitely sang it with emotion.  Awesome job by her.  #VoiceKnockouts” One individual said, “Payge Turner almost made me cry just now. I felt that song in my soul for some reason! #TheVoice” Another felt the opposite and added, “I Thought Ryan SLAYED that Performance!” One user was in shock and asked, “How does no one steal Ryan? WTH? One tweeted, “You let Ryan go home? Are you insane? They were both awesome. Someone should have saved Ryan. He's got an amazing voice. Dumb decision not to steal him.”

Episode 8 had witnessed a lot of drama and twists in the battles round of ‘The Voice’ Season 19. While Blake Shelton had opted for Ian Flanigan over Aaron Scott, John Legend snubbed Rio Sauma and chose Casme as his favourite for the Knockout challenge. In another round, Legend picked Cami Clune over James Pyle and taking complete advantage of the situation, Blake used the “steal” option for Pyle to make sure his journey continues in the singing reality show. Kelly Clarkson, on the other hand, went for Marisa Corvo but also saved Ryan Gallagher to advance them in the Knockout round. Gwen Stefani picked Ryan Berg over Liam St. John.

The new season of ‘The Voice’ is being hosted by Carson Daly. Fans can also catch the singing reality show on the official website of NBC and on their official app along with the network's new streaming service Peacock. Also, we will see Nick Jonas returning as a judge on NBC’s ‘The Voice’ in Season 20 replacing Gwen Stefani. The American crooner earlier sat on the big red chair in Season 18.

'The Voice' Season 19 airs every Monday at 8/7c only on NBC.
