'The Voice’ Season 19: John Legend picks John Holiday as Internet hails 'generational talent', saves Julia Cooper

After Team Kelly and Team Blake picked their best contestants from their battle rounds of ‘The Voice’ Season 19, it was time for John Legend’s team to hit the stage. He picked John Holiday and Julia Cooper to lock horns on Stevie Wonder’s hit single ‘Summer Soft.’ John Holiday and Julia Cooper got a tremendous response in the blind auditions and continuing the same run, both the contestants nailed their battle round as well.

All the judges seemed completely floored with Holiday and Cooper’s performance. While giving it a thought after listening to all the coaches, John Legend first praised both the artistes and then picked John Holiday over Julia Cooper. The latter, however, got a surprise when Legend saved her from going home which came as a complete shock to the singer.

The Internet also shared their impressions on the battle round of John Holiday and Julia Cooper. One user said, “John Holiday’s voice is a generational talent. #TheVoice @JohnHolidayLive”. Another stated, “John Holiday vs Julia Cooper just blessed us all Stevie would be proud. Such tight harmonies and soaring moments. John has an exciting range but Julia was keeping up with him. One user tweeted, “john holiday is going alllllll the way on the voice.... he better win, I'm obsessed with his vocal range.” One individual stated, “@JohnHolidayLiveI vote John Holiday and you’re the greatest and perfection singer in The Voice world history.”

In the first round of the battles of ‘The Voice’ Season 19, we saw Blake Shelton opting for the mother-daughter trio Worth the Wait over Taryn Papa and the latter was stolen by John Legend. Blake also picked Jus Jon in the other round from his team over Payton Lamar. If we talk about John Legend, he went for Tamara Jade over Olivia Reyes and Bailey Rae over Sid Kingsley. The latter moved to Team Kelly after she used the “steal” option to make sure his journey doesn’t end on the singing reality show. Kelly Clarkson chose Madeline Consoer over Eli Zamora from her team whereas, Gwen Stefani voted for Payge Turner over the 16-year-old Lauren Frihauf from her squad. The latter picked John Legend as her coach after he and Blake used the “steal” option to make her stay in the competition.

R&B icon Usher, who has been a coach in one of the earlier seasons of ‘The Voice’ will also be returning as a Mega Mentor on Season 19 of the singing reality show. The battle rounds will see the coaches enlisting music industry powerhouses Leon Bridges, Miguel, Kane Brown and Julia Michaels to prepare their artistes to go head-to-head in hope of advancing to the knockouts. Kane Brown will work with Team Blake, Julia Michaels joins Team Gwen, Leon Bridges assists Team Kelly, while Miguel will lend his support to Team Legend.

The new season of ‘The Voice’ is being hosted by Carson Daly. Season 19 episodes will be aired on NBC. Fans can also catch the singing reality show on the official website of NBC and on their official app along with the network's new streaming service Peacock.
