The View's Joy Behar takes a dig at House Speaker Mike Johnson following recent win, drags 'evil' Jim Jordan and Matt Gaetz too
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Rep Mike Johnson was officially elected Speaker of the House after receiving more votes than Hakeem Jeffries on October 25.
Since the Kevin McCarthy ouster, ‘The View’ panel has often discussed the race to Speakership. Jim Jordan, McCarthy, Steve Scalise, and Matt Gaetz have all been discussed, and during Thursday’s segment, Johnson was discussed too.
‘The View’ hosts all shared their opinion on Johnson following his recent win, especially Joy Behar, who had weighed in on the House Speaker, as well as Gaetz and Jordan.
Whoopi Goldberg asks ‘Is this the guy we want?’
Moderator and host of ‘The View,’ Whoopi Goldberg introduced the topic to her co-hosts, “This breaks my heart in a different way Republicans voted…” At this point, Joy Behar intervened and said, “Say no more.”
As everyone laughed, Goldberg continued, “Voted unanimously. Voted in Mike Johnson as the 56th Speaker of the House. Now, if you're not familiar with this man, who is now second in line for the presidency, here are some of his takes on various things. Take a look.”
‘The View’ then played clips of House Speaker Mike Johnson, after which Goldberg said, “But so this guy doesn't believe that the election was fair. He thinks that you can have an abortion in the middle of having a baby because clearly, he doesn't know how women's bodies work. Is this the guy we really want sitting in there?”
Members of the live audience on the set said “No,” and Goldberg added, “It’s not up to us though.”
Joy Behar weighs in on Mike Johnson
After Whoopi Goldberg introduced the topic to her fellow hosts, Joy Behar finally weighed in, “Here's the thing, he looks mild-mannered.”
“Does he?” asked Behar’s fellow hosts.
Behar responded, “He has glasses but at least Matt Gaetz and Jim Jordan have the decency to look evil. This guy is like a wolf in sheep's clothing. Just watch him. Mild-mannered. Anti-abortion. Anti-LGBT. Anti-climate change.”
“He's a big taker of fossil fuel money. The guy…by the way, the hubris of these Republicans to go against the will of the American people. American people are all in for women's rights, gay rights, climate change, and things happening to fix the environment so that we don't all die on this planet or drown on this planet,” added Behar.
Behar concluded as she received a huge round of applause from the live audience, “They have…that's what I call hubris because they are not listening to the American people, and next year we're going to fix you.”
