Joy Behar wants Joe Biden to 'get tough' and start shaming the Trump family on nepotism: 'He needs to play the aggrieved father card'
'The View' co-host Joy Behar was not pleased by Republican attacks on Hunter Biden's drug problems. Discussing an impeachment hearing, where Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla referenced 2020 presidential candidate and former Vice president Joe Biden's son's drug use, Behar said that it was out of line and urged Joe Biden to be tougher.
"I don't want to make light of anybody's substance abuse issues,” Gaetz stated. "It's a little hard to believe that Burisma hired Hunter Biden to resolve their international disputes when he could not resolve his own dispute with Hertz rental car leaving cocaine and a crack pipe in the car. We have the ability to show that Burisma is corrupt,” Gaetz exclaimed. “We have the ability to show that Hunter Biden is corrupt. That totally exculpates the president.”
Gaetz's dig backfired and he was slammed for his comments. He was also pulled over for speeding in 2008 for suspicion of a DUI in Florida. He was driving his father Don's BMW at the time who was a Senator in Florida. He refused to take a breath analyzer test and all charges against him were dropped.
Calling Biden senior a "very viable candidate" Behar said, "I think he needs to go out there and really shame them and play the — not victim card, but the aggrieved father card. He has lost two children, Joe Biden has. He has one son left, and these shameless people are attacking his son. The one boy that he loves still that he has to go home to at night. That is the real truth of the situation."
She then went on to say that Hunter's involvement in Burisma Holdings, the Ukranian gas company that is tied to Trump's impeachment investigation was plain nepotism - but Trump was guilty of that too. "The Burisma thing is nepotism, and let’s just call it what it is. It’s just nepotism, and if you are going to talk about nepotism, look at Trump’s family. It’s all over the White House." Hunter served on the board for Burisma.
Agreeing, guest-host Ana Navarro said, “That’s exactly what Joe Biden should be doing. He should be talking about nepotism in Washington."
In September, Behar had expressed similar sentiments regarding Biden's family. She had said at the time, "Don't you think that politically it's kind of dumb for the Republicans to go after Joe Biden's son when he already lost a son and a daughter and a wife?” she asked her co-hosts, before adding, “I mean, people feel sorry for Joe!”
