‘The Undoing’ Episode 3 ‘Do No Harm’: Who is Grace's stalker, will she frame Elena's husband Fernando Alves?

WARNING: Spoiler Alert for ‘The Undoing’

Putting the missing pieces of the murder mystery together in HBO's ‘The Undoing’ seems more difficult than we had imagined. Starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant, the series based on the 2014 novel ‘You Should Have Known’ by Jean Hanff Korelitz has everyone at the edge of the seat.

The second episode ‘The Missing’ picks back up right where the first one ended. Grace's (Kidman) frantic search for Jonathan (Grant) ends but the suspense is far from over. Jonathan insists he is innocent, but can Grace trust him after all the lies? The morning after the cold-blooded crime takes over New York City, Grace drops Henry at school and is surrounded by the press. When one of the mothers from the elite Reardon School say Elena's husband Fernando Alves (Ismael Cruz Córdova) turned himself in, Sylvia Steinetz (Lily Rabe) retorts, “Of course it was the husband... It's always the f---ing husband.”

Throughout the entire episode, Fernando can be seen crossing paths with Grace as he carries his baby daughter Teresa and drops his son Miguel (Edan Alexander) at school. Traumatized by the shocking events, he seems aloof but steals a few glances at Grace.

Meanwhile, Jonathan comes back and discloses what really happened that night. He tells Grace he went to confront Elena after the fundraiser when they argued, fought and had sex. According to his version, he walked the streets, went to a bar, only to return to confront her again and found her bludgeoned to death. Now that Grace has called the cops on her husband, he will be behind the bars soon.

Elena's husband Fernando will be struck off the list of suspects. But could Grace have a change of heart and believe in Jonathan's innocence? Titled ‘Do No Harm’, the next episode is summarized: “Jonathan tells Grace his side of the story; she now finds herself being followed by someone close to Elena.” Who could be the person close to Elena? Since her introduction, it is clear that Elena had no friends. By all logic, it points to her husband Fernando.

Now, the question is: Why is he stalking Grace? Last week, we speculated that Nicole Kidman's character could turn out to be bipolar. If that is true, then she might be looking for ways to save her ass. Her solution: Frame Fernando Alves for the murder. Why wouldn't she just go with Jonathan as the killer? Well, she would try to free him — if nothing else, for her son Henry's sake.

Fans are already suspecting her hand in the murder, especially because she tries to defend her husband. “Whyyy is she defending her lying ass husband? Ugh she’s irritating me. #TheUndoing like ma’am he clearly had something to do with Elena’s murder,” one fan posted and another said, “I think she caught her husband and Elena together and killed them both. I think she imagined her husband coming home because her psyche was trying to block that out to protect the nice girl facade.”

One Reddit fan put it together: “They’re playing it as she’s repressed her suspicions (possibly more than suspicions). The police interrogation brought some of it the foreground, which made her flustered. She recovered at the end though.”

‘The Undoing’ premiered on HBO on October 25, 2020, and more episodes in the six-episodic series will air every Sunday from 9 pm ET to 10 pm ET. Catch the third episode ‘Do No Harm’ on November 8, 2020.
