The true story behind Hulu's 'Sam: A Saxon', a tale about the first Black police officer in East Germany
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Hulu has been in the game of becoming a great streaming service that releases binge-worthy content that not only becomes a source of entertainment but also ruffles some controversial parts of history that have been long gone and erased. The newest addition to the list is the drama series 'Sam: A Saxon', a story about a Black man who is struggling to settle down amid a political storm in East Germany. The series is set in the era of the Cold War between 1945 and 1989.
The series was made by Jorg Winger, who is also known to have created 'Deutschland 83', 'Deutschland 86' and 'Deutschland 89', which also highlight the repercussions of the Cold War and how the division between East and West Germany impacted the lives of the locals. 'Sam: A Saxon' walks on the same path of putting light on a difficult period in East Germany and is all set to release exclusively on Hulu on April 26, 2023.

The story of Samuel Meffire
The world during the infamous Cold War in East Germany was vastly different from the world now. Society was quite prejudiced in its ways and racism was on the rise. In the midst of all the chaos, Samuel Meffire lived the story of struggle, prejudice, and war. Meffire was the first Black police officer in a part of the country that was known for biased views. In search of a home, Meffire fought with the system and tried to change the way the people in East Germany perceived people of color.
In the process of bringing change, Samuel becomes the face of an anti-racism campaign that turns into a symbol of hope for a new German identity. However, the fame doesn't last long when he goes through a public downfall. Later, Samuel finds himself behind bars and becomes the number one public enemy in Germany.
The Hulu miniseries will see the rise and fall of Meffire as he goes through struggles to find a home in a country that hates him and will narrate a story that is both personal and public as he faces racial discrimination and isolation in the place where he once called home.
