'The Time Traveler's Wife' may have been lambasted by critics, but a segment of the audience seems to have been impressed with the HBO drama. Starring Theo James and Rose Leslie in lead roles, the romance drama, based on the novel of the same name by Audrey Niffenegger, follows the journey of Henry DeTamble and Clare Abshire whose love story gets a massive challenge in the form of the former's ability to time travel.

Prior to the show's release, the show was panned by critics for a rather wafer-thin plot and being too complex, but a quick look at social media suggests otherwise. Fans seemed to have loved the season opener and even lavished praise on the cast, particularly Leslie's character.

'The Time Traveller's Wife' Episode 1 Review: Theo James, Rose Leslie shine in complex, but promising drama

"#TheTimeTravelersWife first episode was good. I still don’t love the leads I think they lack chemistry I prefer Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams over Theo James and Rose Leslie," one of the fans opined. "#TheTimeTravelersWife is gonna be a tough sell for a lot of folks nowadays but that was a great first episode. Tremendous casting," another remarked. "As a book lover, I really enjoyed the first episode. I can see why Audrey as the consultant didn't change a word! #TheTimeTravelersWife," a tweet said.

One of the fans was lavish in praise of Leslie: "And Rose. Wow. Rose as Clare killed it with some funny ass lines. But she brought the emotion to a full hilt. Confused, gobsmacked, lamenting the man she loves when he’s right there, but not #TheTimeTravelersWife." The good reviews poured in quite steadily. "I've never read #TheTimeTravelersWife , but those who have must be happy with that opening episode. I thought it was fantastic," a fan tweeted.

"There's so much to say... God, I loved this episode! If you don't want to watch because of the critics, you're missing out on good content for your Sunday! Leave your mind open and watch the series! You will not regret! :) #TheTimeTravelersWife," one of the fans commented. "I know the reviews were a little subpar, but I really liked the first episode of #TheTimeTravelersWife," a tweet seconded.
