'The Third Day' Episode 6 Preview: Finale at Osea Island teases a dangerous conclusion to the mystery series

And just like that, we have arrived at the finale episode of HBO's mystery drama 'The Third Day'. The mysterious happenings at Osea Island are turning deadlier for Helen (Naomie Harris) — is it time we call her by her real name, Caz? — and her two daughters Ellie (Nico Parker) and Tallulah (Charlotte Gairdner-Mihell).
She had arrived at Osea Island in the second half of the series to look for her missing husband Sam (Jude Law). Arriving on the pretext of celebrating her daughter's birthday, she had kept her identity hidden from the locals, which in hindsight was a good idea. Because when the truth was revealed, it resulted in an attack on Tallulah.
In the previous episode, Helen / Caz finally meets Sam. She had been asking locals his whereabouts and all she received in return were warnings to go back home. The big confrontation between Sam and Helen is due in the upcoming episode. According to the official synopsis of the finale episode of 'The Third Day' titled 'Last Day - The Dark', "Helen protects her family as tensions come to a dramatic conclusion".
Given the dark nature of the synopsis, it is safe to presume that the finale episode of the series will be nothing like we've seen before. The locals at Osea are strong believers in maintaining balance on the island in order to maintain balance in the world. After all, they do believe Osea to be the soul of the world. And so, with Sam as the father of the Island, we don't think they are going to let Helen or anyone else take him away.
There is also the matter of Ellie's new friend. While Tallulah was attacked by Jess (Katherine Waterston) in the previous episode, Ellie had made a new friend (or foe?). Played by Freya Allan, we don't know anything about the young girl, but she shows up just at the right time to distract Ellie away from her sister. She also takes her to a cave to show her some ancient religious site. We're guessing she has a major role to play in the finale episode and will be weighing in a lot of Ellie's decision-making.
The episode will be directed by Philippa Lowthorpe and written by Kit de Waal & Dean O'Loughlin and Dennis Kelly. Coming to expectations from it — we're guessing the finale won't be shutting off all loose ends. Perhaps if Helen does manage to take Sam (and her son Nathan if he's alive) off the island, she might have to leave something behind.
'The Third Day' Episode 6 'Last Day - The Dark' is slated to be released on Monday, October 19, at 9 pm ET on HBO. The episodes will be available to stream on HBO Max following the airing.
