LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The clever touch of dark humor has taken fans by surprise in HBO's drama 'The Sympathizer'. Featuring Hoa Xuande in the lead role, the seven-episodic series is based on Viet Thanh Nguyen's novel of the same name.
It revolves around Captain (Hoa Xuande), a North Vietnam spy who works in the South Vietnam army. Being a close aide to the General (Toan Le) of the South, he accompanies him to Los Angeles after the fall of Saigon.
The series chronicles his adventures in the new country while he continues to spy on General until he somehow lands in Vietnam's prison.
