Spoilers for ‘The Stand’ Episode 4, ‘The House of the Dead’

The first two episodes of the CBS All Access limited series, ‘The Stand’, based on Stephen King’s 1978 novel of the same name, were centered around Stu Redman (James Marsden), Harold Lauder (Owen Teague), Larry Underwood (Jovan Adepo), and Lloyd Henreid (Nat Wolff). Episode three, on the other hand, concentrated on characters already introduced -- Nadine Cross (Amber Heard) and Nick Andros (Henry Zaga).

Nadine, we saw in a flashback, has a special power -- She can communicate with and is working with Randall Flagg (Alexander Skarsgård). We saw how Nadine and Joe (Gordon Cormier) met with Larry, who has been following Harold’s signs across the country, and how this trio made it from outside New York to Boulder.

In Arkansas, five months before the present, Nick bumped a guy at a bar, forcing him to spill his beer. This led to a violent assault, and Nick found himself in the hospital, where he had a vision of Flagg, who told him he could fix his lost eye, in exchange for his blind faith.

Nadine, it is revealed, is in Boulder to be Flagg’s eyes. She wants him to come now, but he needs her to do something first: Kill the witch and the five puppets she’s put in charge. All Nadine has to do is “pull his trigger.”

What happens in the next episode?

Episode 4 of ‘The Stand’, is titled ‘The House of the Dead’. It has been written by Jill Killington and Owen King and directed by Ben Cavell and Eric Dickinson. As per the official synopsis of the episode, "The Boulder Free Zone Committee looks to solidify their leadership and bolster the community with a town hall meeting, but Flagg continues to make inroads as he plots to destroy the newly-forming society from within."

In the books, Mother Abagail (Whoopi Goldberg) senses Flagg's presence within Nadine. She also fears that Nadine will make an attempt on her life. Nadine, at the same time, also fears that Abagail can see right through her. She fears that Abagail will denounce her publicly. It is therefore likely that the coming episode will see this conflict come into play.

In the books, Nadine consults an Ouija board for further instructions and is told to go seduce Harold. The objective, of course, is to get him to construct a dynamite bomb to kill Nick and others. It will be interesting to see how Nadine’s character is handled. The show has so far been not wholly loyal to the book (or to the older adaptation). Will Nadine be seen having the same dilemmas and woes? We will find out as we move forward.

When will episode 4 air?

‘The Stand’ premiered on December 17, 2020, with the first episode ‘The End’. Subsequent episodes in the nine-episode limited-event series will follow every Thursday on CBS All Access. The episodes drop on the streaming site on the day of their scheduled release.

The drop time is at midnight PT / 1 am MT / 2 am CT / 3 am ET. However, there's no set time to tune in. You can watch it whenever you want after its premiere on the streaming service. ‘The Stand’ Episode 4, ‘The House of the Dead’, will release on January 7, 2021, only on CBS All Access.
