'The Squad' Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley 'stands with Chrissy Teigen' in Trump Twitter standoff
Congresswoman and "The Squad" member Ayanna Pressley's office posted a sign backing Chrissy Teigen in her Twitter feud with President Donald Trump, in which she called him a "pussy ass bitch" after he called her "filthy-mouthed". An aide to the Massachusetts representative, Sarah Groh, on Wednesday, posted a picture of a sign put outside the Congresswoman's office in Washington, DC that read: "Our office stands with Chrissy Teigen."
Trump, on Sunday, had slammed Teigen and her singer husband John Legend for failing to acknowledge his role in criminal justice reform, including the passing of First Step Act. He had seemingly taken offense at a segment on Lester Holt's 'NBC Nightly News' that saw EGOT-winner Legend speak about FREEAMERICA, an organization that raises awareness about criminal justice reform.
"When all of the people pushing so hard for Criminal Justice Reform were unable to come even close to getting it done, they came to me as a group and asked for my help," he wrote. "I got it done with a group of Senators and others who would never have gone for it. Obama couldn't come close."
He continued, "...musician @johnlegend and his filthy-mouthed wife are talking now about how great it is — but I didn’t see them around when we needed help getting it passed. Anchor @LesterHoltNBC doesn’t even bring up the subject of President Trump or the Republicans when talking about the importance or passage of Criminal Justice Reform."
Teigen responded to Trump's attack by tweeting: "lol what a p***y ass bitch. tagged everyone but me. an honor, mister president. Shortly after her tweet, #P***A**B*** started trending on Twitter.
Pressley and the president have also engaged in a Twitter spat before. Trump, in July, had written in a series of tweets that the four freshmen Congresswomen, referred to as "The Squad" in Washington, should "go back" to the "places from which they came." 'The Squad' includes Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Pressley of Massachusetts.
Trump, in his tweet, wrote: "So interesting to see 'Progressive' Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run."
"Why don't they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came," he continued. "Then come back and show us how it is done. These places need your help badly, you can't leave fast enough. I'm sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!"
Trump was widely condemned for his controversial comments, which sparked #RacistInChief and #TrumpIsARacist to trend on Twitter.
