'The Seven Deadly Sins' Season 4 Ending Explained: Will Meliodas be Demon King and can Elizabeth survive?
Spoilers for 'The Seven Deadly Sins' Season 4, 'Imperial Wrath of the Gods' (Japanese title: 'Nanatsu no Taizai: Kamigami no Gekirin')
Netflix has finally released 'Imperial Wrath of the Gods', the third season of the popular anime series 'The Seven Deadly Sins', as Season 4 on the streaming service. It's an exciting new season with a lot of massive revelations and it ends on quite the cliffhanger. By the end of Season 4, Meliodas (Yūki Kaji) has begun the process of transforming into the Demon King. However, in the depths of Purgatory, his emotions have taken physical form and the real Meliodas is determined to fight his way back to his friends.
Ban (Tatsuhisa Suzuki) is still down in Purgatory looking for Meliodas and based on how aged he looked in the last shot we saw of him, it would appear he's been there for at least a few years. Hopefully, Ban and the real Meliodas can make their way to Brittania sooner rather than later because the rest of the Seven Deadly Sins could use some firepower. Maddened by the combined power of multiple Commandments, Estarossa (Hiroki Tōchi) has kidnapped Elizabeth (Sora Amamiya). Even her Goddess powers may not be enough to defeat this superpowered threat but the rest of the sins are determined to rescue her.
Even if they do somehow manage to defeat Estarossa, there's the matter of Elizabeth's curse. One way or another, Elizabeth will die soon enough and there's nothing the sins can do about it. Right now, the best hope the Sins have is actually that the demon Meliodas might be alerted to Estarossa's mutiny and come deal with him. But since he's in a cocoon right now, the chances of that happening are actually quite slim.
All said and done, it's a pretty incomplete ending that leaves us desperately wanting more. The idea of waiting for another year or more (the last season came out nearly two years ago) to see where this story is ultimately headed is pretty frustrating. However, the next season should be worth the wait. If you've been keeping up with the manga, you would have some idea of what's coming, though we're not going to spoil that for you here. Suffice to say, this Holy War is going to have a truly devastating end that ties in the entire history of the Demon Clan and the Goddess Clan. Until then, we might as well wait patiently for more.
'The Seven Deadly Sins' Season 4 'Imperial Wrath of the Gods' is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
