'The Rev': Did Richard Hartley's 'reverse curfew' plan for his kids backfire? Here's how Jordan and Judea fare
'The Rev' star Richard Hartley was so perplexed by his children, Judea and Jordan Hartley, depending on his wife Stacey and him for everything that he decided to come up with a plan to push his kids to be a bit more independent. While most children hate curfews and love spending time outside, the same can't be said for Richard's children. Judea and Jordan barely ever leave home.
Although initially, Stacey encouraged the children to take their own time to grow and become independent, she too finally admitted that she felt like Jordan and Judea were way too dependent upon them. Hence, the husband and wife devise a plan to push their children into learning to take charge of their own lives, instead of relying on their parents for everything.
Richard explains how they need to get a job and earn some money to become independent. But in order to get a job, the kids would have to step out and leave the comforts of their home.
So, Richard and Stacey come up with the idea of placing a reverse curfew on their children. A reverse curfew entails that Jordan and Judea would have to be out of the house from 9 am to 5 pm, and spend that time looking for a job or working to earn money. Stacey and Richard were convinced that this plan would push their kids to finally grow up and behave like adults.
When they share their plan with the kids, they were obviously far from thrilled with it. Judea protested by pointing out how she did a lot of work around the church and had no time for anything else. However, Richard wasn't ready to hear any excuses and declared that their reverse curfew would begin from the next day. Both Judea and Jordan go out and manage to get jobs for themselves. Judea got a job at a pottery store while Jordan landed a job as a handyman.
Unfortunately, Richard and Stacey didn't have enough time to bask in their plan's success. Richard realized that Judea was indeed doing a lot of work when he found it hard to manage everything by himself. So, he reluctantly goes to Judea and asks her to come back and help him around the church. She pushes her father into putting her on the pay-roll and acknowledging that she did indeed work a lot. He reluctantly agrees to it.
Richard's reverse curfew didn't work out too well with Jordan either. As Jordan went out and managed to rack up a huge credit card bill by purchasing various tools and equipment he felt he might need for his new job. When Richard realized that he was shelling out more money than earning on the job, he grudgingly admits that his plan might have not worked out as he anticipated, but it was still a step in the right direction, as the kids were finally working jobs.
