When FOX announced its new celebrity dance competition series- 'The Real Dirty Dancing', fans were immediately intrigued. What set this show apart from the several other celebrity dance competition shows was that the FOX show was inspired by the cult-classic 1987 romantic drama dance film 'Dirty Dancing'.

'The Real Dirty Dancing' featured eight celebrities battling it out to be the new Baby and Johnny as they put on their dancing shows and moved their bodies to recreate some of the most famous and iconic dance moves such as "the lift" from the original movie. The eight celebrities- Anjelah Johnson-Reyes, Corbin Bleu, Stephen Boss, Loni Love, Brie Bella, Tyler Cameron, Howie Dorough, Cat Cora and Antonio Gates, fully immersed themselves in the ultimate 'Dirty Dancing' experience. The series was set at Virginia's Mountain Lake Lodge, which is the actual location for the film's fictional Kellerman's Lodge. Throughout the whole event special, 'Dirty Dancing's memorable music and unforgettable fashion transport viewers back to the magical summer in 1963.

As the four-episode special event show is all set to approach its grand finale, the one question on everybody's minds is will there be a Season 2 of 'The Real Dirty Dancing'? Currently, FOX has neither renewed nor canceled the show, so the fate of a future season is still up in the air. However, considering it's a special series, it seems unlikely that the network might pick it up for another season. The show's ratings too were pretty low. The competition series settled for a 0.2 rating among adults 18-49 and just 1.5 million total viewers. That key-demo rating was half what its lead-in, 'The Resident' averaged. 'Real Dirty Dancing’s total-viewer tally did even worse than halving its lead-in’s average. 'The Resident' at 9 received a 0.4 rating and 3.2 million total viewers. So we wouldn't be surprised if the network decides to drop the show.

The show's synopsis states, "The series follows eight celebrities — Brie Bella, Corbin Bleu, Tyler Cameron, Cat Cora, Howie Dorough, Antonio Gates, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes and Loni Love — as they fully immerse themselves in the ultimate “Dirty Dancing” experience. Set at Virginia’s Mountain Lake Lodge, which was the real location for the film’s fictional Kellerman’s Lodge, the stars will partner up and learn iconic dance routines from the Jennifer Grey-and Patrick Swayze-led movie and recreate classic scenes — including the legendary lift that cemented the film’s spot in cinematic history. Throughout the event special, “Dirty Dancing’s” memorable music and unforgettable fashion will transport viewers right back to that magical summer in 1963. The competition will also feature special guest judges who will help decide which celebrity couples will make it through and which couple will be “put in a corner.” In the end, one man and one woman will be crowned the winning “Baby” and “Johnny,” becoming THE REAL DIRTY DANCING champions."

The show is produced by Eureka Productions and Lionsgate Television. Chris Culvenor, Paul Franklin, Wes Dening and Dave Emery serve as executive producers, with Dan Martin serving as both executive producer and showrunner.

'The Real Dirty Dancing' is available for streaming on FOX and Tubi.
