Queen is so hurt by Megxit she wants it 'over and done with', says source: 'She doesn’t want to talk about it'
Queen Elizabeth II is eager for Megxit discussions to be "over and done with," according to a royal insider.
The anonymous insider claimed that while the 93-year-old has been publicly supportive of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's bombshell decision to step down as senior royals, she "generally doesn't want to talk about it," Vanity Fair reports.
The source told the magazine's royal correspondent Katie Nicholl that the Queen feels the ongoing discussions have put a strain on personal relationships within the royal family and that they are damaging to The Firm as an institution.
"The Queen has been keen to get this resolved because she sees it is damaging to the monarchy and on a personal level I think this has been rather hurtful for her," the source said. "She has got to the point where she doesn't want to think about it anymore, she just wants it over and done with."
This comes just days after Buckingham Palace clarified in an announcement that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would no longer be allowed to use the word "Royal" in any branding effective post March 31, when they officially step down from their roles.
In response to the announcement, the Sussexes issued a statement of their own on Friday night. They said they had dropped plans to trademark "SussexRoyal" and will effectively stop using the branding -- which is featured on their website as well as social media accounts -- from spring.
"While the duke and duchess are focused on plans to establish a new non-profit organization, given the specific UK Government rules surrounding (the) use of the word Royal, it has been therefore agreed that their non-profit organization, when it is announced this spring, will not be named Sussex Royal Foundation," a spokeswoman said, adding that the "Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not intend to use 'SussexRoyal' in any territory post-Spring 2020."
Furthermore, the spokeswoman clarified that the trademark applications were originally filed as protective measures "acting on advice from and following the same model for the Royal Foundation." However, they have been removed since.
