'The Paramedic': Meet Mario Casas, Déborah François and rest of the cast of Spanish psychological thriller
The film follows the story of an ambulance worker slowly losing faith in his girlfriend after he suffers a tragic accident
Life as an ambulance worker is never easy, but even harder is being on the other end of an unfornuate accident. When ambulance worker Angel (Mario Casas) meets a tragic accident, the resultant injury forces him to begin adapting to life in a wheelchair. Not everyone takes to the transition so well, and as Angel's personal life begins to deteriorate, his paranoia increases - to the point where he can't even trust his partner, Vane (Déborah François). As the film progresses, he grows more and more suspicious of Vane - and further and further into madness. Ahead of the film's Netflix release, we take a look at the main cast featured in this psychological thriller.
Mario Casas plays the main character, Angel. Casas is a Spanish actor who is perhaps best known for his role as Aitor Carrasco on 'Paco's Men', a series that's been on the air since 2007. Casas is also known for his work on 'Three Steps Above Heaven', 'Witching and Bitching' and 'The 33.' According to Miguel Ruz, producer of the film, Casas' performance in 'The Paramedic' shows just how much range the character truly has. "Mario is one of those extraordinary actors that, when you see him perform, he manages to make you forget about all the characters he has played in previous films. On the second day of production while watching the monitor, I realized that Mario had already transformed into Angel," said Ruz.
Déborah François plays Angel's girlfriend, Vane. She is a French actress, and a recipient of the César Award for Most Promising Actress for 'The First Day of the Rest of Your Life'. She is also known for her roles on 'Populaire', 'Les tribulations d'une caissière' and 'Never Grow Old'. Director Carles Torres has expressed excitement towards her performance alongside Mario Casas'. "The spectator will enjoy the tandem created by him and Déborah François, with two of the best performances of the year," said Torres.
Guillermo Pfening plays Ricardo, a friend of Angel's. An actor and a writer, Pfening is best known for his work on 'Nobody's Watching', 'The German Doctor' and 'Caíto' - the last of which is a film he wrote.
'The Paramedic' debuts on Netflix on Wednesday, September 16.
