'The Order' Season 2: Complex forbidden love stories take centerstage as Hamish and Vera get together

The romances are quite endearing but they're not exactly the most morally appropriate passions in fiction

Spoilers for 'The Order' Season 2

Netflix's horror-drama web series 'The Order' has always had a lot of complicated romances and Season 2 is no different. This season, Grand Magus of the Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose, Vera Stone (Katharine Isabelle), begins a romantic relationship with Hamish Duke (Thomas Elms), leader of the Order's arch-rivals the Knights of Saint Christopher.

In a weird way, the two are perfect for each other. They're both strategists and people who clearly have fine tastes. But despite all that, the relationship is still a bit inappropriate. When Vera initiates the relationship, Hamish is an Acolyte of the Order, so right there she's already creating an unbalanced power dynamic. A relationship with your boss is always tricky but a relationship with your boss who is also your archenemy? That's all kinds of complicated.

Going beyond that, there's also the fact that Vera is an authority at Belgrave University while Hamish is still technically a student and a teacher's assistant. And while being hot for your teacher is a very popular fantasy, the reality is still a moral gray area.

Then again, 'The Order' is no stranger to questionable romances. The lead characters Jack Morton (Jake Manley) and Alyssa Drake (Sarah Grey) are a prime example. Like Vera and Hamish, they were also in a complicated relationship that violated organizational hierarchy as well as the fact that Jack was basically a double agent. Now, in Season 2, we have the fake relationship between a memory-wiped Jack and Gabrielle Dupree (Louriza Tronco), who was admittedly just doing her job but definitely enjoyed playing his emotions.

To be honest, the only relationship that isn't at least a little complicated is the one between Lilith Bathory (Devery Jacobs) and Nicole (Anesha Bailey) but they spend most of Season 2 apart.

In all fairness, all of these relationships (except the one between Gabrielle and Jack) are quite endearing, and we do think Hamish and Vera are great together. However, that doesn't change the fact that they aren't exactly the most morally appropriate romances in fiction. Then again, forbidden love does have its charms.

'The Order' Season 2 is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
